Thanks Tom for this article. I gotta say I taught my Little Leaguers to "hustle" always like Pete Rose, he was a good role model for kids,, until his upsetting debacle. No longer a role model for Kids? Rose was the epitome of Charlie Hustle.....

Got his autograph on an old SI with Rose on the cover, at a Sports Memorabilia show in LA, in 85.

Rose with all his hardware, 3 W.S. Rings, gold gloves, Silver Sluggers, MVP Trophy, shit the man was a beast on the field, still love his style of play, tho' plowing Ray Fosse over was a bit too much testosterone....

They broke the mold....to get that level of testosterone the guys today need needles and syringes.

After 25 years I think its time to let him.

Especially now that everyone thinks PEDs are a worse sin. And in fact our culture has changed in as much that you can find legal gambling all over the country, its not that shocking anymore. Then again its time to forgive Shoeless Joe too.

I see you and double that notion.....

If I had a vote, I'd filibuster for both Rose and Shoeless Joe to be HOF'rs, no doubt 2 great players, we rarely if ever see the level of Rose's intense hustle.

Your right on target with your point/analogy of todays PED prima-donnas, when all Rose did was tap into his intense motivational, the epitome of personal drive to win baby win....

In my time, gotta say Rose hung with the best and blew away the rest, more or less, he was a thrill to see, playing.....

My great uncle was confined to a chair from a stroke, but as a kid he taught me baseball watching his hometown Big Red Machine in the early 70s. 76 was a rough series to lose. Ah but the next 2 years were magical for a 10/11 year old. Bench and Munson were my role models. Hated Fisk with a passion.
