Save for Paul Pierce. At least, according to Comcast New England’s Greg Dickerson. Because only about a third of Paul Pierce’s $15.3 million deal is guaranteed for 2013-14, rumors abound that team personnel boss Danny Ainge may want to cut ties with the star to save money, or deal him elsewhere to prop up an aging roster. Which is why Pierce, according to Dickerson, thinks his days in Boston are numbered. Here’s what the Celtics sideline reporter told his viewers on Sunday:
"I don't think they will (bring Pierce back)," Dickerson said Sunday on CSNNE. "And I know that the company that Paul Pierce hangs around in, they do not believe – and I don't think Paul Pierce believes – that he is going to be brought back next year at $15 million.
"I know for a fact that people around Paul Pierce have pretty much resigned themselves to the fact that he's played his final game in a Boston Celtics uniform. Again, Paul wants to stay – obviously for $15 million, but he wants to finish his career in a Celtics uniform."
[…]
"If Paul's gone, I think without a doubt Kevin Garnett is gone – either by retirement or he finally decides to waive his no-trade clause, and the Celtics maybe work something out with a (Los Angeles Clippers) team," said Dickerson. "But the list is real short; the teams that Kevin Garnett would go to, there might be two of them on it, and they both might be the Clippers and (Los Angeles) Lakers."

That would be such a slap in the face to a player that stuck with the team throughout his entire career.

Getting paid a quarter of 15 mil to do nothing is such a slap in the face! Who do you think you are, Brandon Roy?

Oh BTW, Brandan Roy's last season as a Blazer, he averaged 12 points, 13.9 PER, 2.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists.

18.6 PPG, 19 PER, 4.8 assists, 6.3 rebounds is nothing?

Its going to be sickening to see him play for the Lakers when he get amnestied/released. But all joking aside he is going make someones team A LOT better for cheap if he amnestied/released.

He would continue to get 1/4 of his pay and NOT play for the Celtics next year - that's 0 PPG, 0 PER, 0 RPG.

I misunderstood you. Okay so you are saying that if he's getting Amnestied or released? That's Boston's fault....

He's just what the Clips need. If they could get him, he solves a ton of their problems and makes them the WC favorites.

Makes sense if he chose the Clips. Gets to go back home and play, without having to wear the purple uniform he hated for his whole career.

Bingo. He's also the last piece of the puzzle for them.

I hope that scumbag gets traded to Charlotte and they win only twelve games.

The Clippers really do make the most sense. He'd be an huge upgrade over Caron Butler/Grant Hill, and would take some of the ball-handling off of Chris Paul.

The Clips are losers, PP, come on up north to the Bay!

I can't believe this. To save only $10M (15 - 5 buyout), they'll give up those stats?

It gives them cap space this summer since Garnett's contract already is off the books.

I would love to have that type of production from our sf! We pay 10 mil for someone that isn't even close to that.

He's going to look great on the Heat, joining his friend and former teammate, Ray Allen.

Not even close? To a probable HoF player?
Actually, they're quite close - major statistical categories (P/R/A) edge goes to Pierce, but otherwise they're very similar. And those edges come because Piece has the ball in his hands more than Nic does - and takes 5 more shots per game.

The biggest difference are 5 things.

1.) Pierce is a proven leader and superstar
2.) Pierce has a +4 PER on Batum
3.) Pierce has a +1.2 Win share
4.) Pierce has a +2 defensive win share
5.) Pierce has lead his team to a championship and 2 finals appearances

And Nic hasn't been asked, and isn't expected, to play the role that Pierce plays. You're comparing a role player (a great one) to a HoF player...and their production is shockingly similar.

Funny, Batum is getting paid only 3 mil less than Pierce. And Pierce got his when the CBA was still wide open. Batum's contract is at the rate of near max from the new CBA. I expect that from that type of pay grade.

Then petition Stotts to get Nic 5 more shots per game.
And really, you EXPECT Nic to be the leader and become a superstar just because he makes $11M? Good luck with that, and have fun being disappointed.

OH great, so the Blazers just pay all-star money to players that are just role players? Wow nice team model!

BTW... Batum had plenty of opportunities to take shots. He was too pussy to take them.
