It's scary how close that guy got to being president, although you can say that for people like Perry and Bachmann too.

Nobody is listening to him and his David Barton nonsense.

I see both the republican and democrate parties developing major schisms over the next few years with large swaths of their members leaving. Hopefully we can come up with non-shitsoaked alternatives, but that's doubtful.

Welcome to the Libertarian Party, folks.

Moderate social policies, fiscal responsibility. Separation of church and state. Separation of most everything and state.

This would be the first step towards relevance in the republican party that I have seen in a long time. The sooner they divorce themselves from the church the better.

I do not see where anyone here has any buy in..why does anything the GOP does effect your political or religious beliefs?

Can you imagine the uproar that was when a Catholic ran for President in the 1960 election..heaven forbid.../smirk

How about the only republicans left are the bible thumpers and all the disaffected republicans and democrats join us in the LP?

I'm not partisan with my politics and I think the Libertarian Party has some solid platforms but I'm always bothered with this lifelong fear that voting for a small party is not stopping the bad guys from winning. Sort of wasting a vote with wishful thinking. I've liked candidates a lot in the past that I didn't believe could contend, therefore voted against the worst possible candidate everytime.

Why not vote for the person you really want to win?

It's not wishful thinking, it just takes time. When I first joined the LP in 1988, the idea of legalized pot was wishful thinking. Our candidates didn't get to be in the debates, in spite of qualifying for the ballot in all 50 states.

We've come a long way since 1988, and it's been positive. Rand Paul is talked about like a serious contender for the nomination. He's not a pure Libertarian, but I see the situation as a good measure of our gains since 1988.

Separation of common sense and state.

What is even worse, a guy like Obama did get to be President.
Now that is fucking nuts!
