There has never been anything in America like 60 Minutes.

The Sunday tradition is the most successful program of any kind in history. For more than a decade, its innovative growth on every major online platform has extended its reach to countless millions around the world. This spring, at the end of our 58th season, 60 Minutes grew rapidly with an unheard-of 9% jump in viewers on CBS.

“60” has been the number-one program in America for decades because our beloved audience finds integrity, quality, and humanity in our stories. When stewardship of the program passed to my colleagues and me, our responsibility was to expand energetically into a new age of media technology while preserving the values our audience expects. Now, the new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.

The waste is heartbreaking.

Last month, 60 Minutes lost its DNA when our entire senior leadership and two of our best on-air correspondents were cruelly fired without cause. Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience. They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.

For my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done. Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all. At 60 Minutes, we have fought harder than anyone knows to save the program that became an American icon. We owed that to our millions of viewers. I am deeply moved by the thousands of wishes we have received to “keep up the good fight.” Most of the men and women of CBS News are still in that fight. But now the collapse of values at the top has become untenable. The leadership of 60 Minutes is no longer recognizable. The principles I hold dear are gone, and so I must leave as well.

I depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion—a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work, very often at the risk of their own lives. I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again—a day when sanity, competence, and courage return.

37 years, it's not just a paycheck every two weeks.
What jumped off the page for me is "management has instructed me to inject falsehoods". As a scientist I call that falsifying data. There is no greater crime.
I had a supervisor once order me to falsify data. I didn't. Same result.
It's no longer a pretense of news.
And the Ellisons will be taking control of CNN shortly. Major media concentrated in the hands of billionaires who oppose the First Amendment.

In a series of social media posts, they call him "Just like Beto O'Rourke but gayer". Show him with Tim Walz with caption Walz is teaching Talarico how to be gay. Walz of course is straight but got labeled beta by MAGA because Minnesota put menstrual products in school restrooms and Walz was too affectionate with his son. And a post headlined Alpha male or Beta cuck? The alpha male of course is criminal Ken Paxton, AI image in Dallas Cowboys uniform. Beta cuck is Talarico in Dallas Cowboys cheerleader costume.
Funny, they never show Talarico with actual gay men. Like JD Vance mentor Peter Thiel. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent....

It seems like there should be a way, not that they have the technology, to burn trash without releasing toxic fumes, like in an underground chamber, with a filter or something.

In a New York Times interview, Scott Pelley detailed pressure to change reporting to align with Trump. Example, when Renee Good was murdered, hours after deadline for editing stories, he was told to report Good was trying to drive her vehicle towards ICE agent who killed her, even though video clearly showed she was going in the opposite direction. Pelley was also told to edit video footing of demonstrators to make them look violent.
 
DUI hire Hegseth removing dozens of religions from Pentagon recognized list is even worse than it looked at first. He delisted Daoist, Confucionist, Shinto, and Jain faiths. All with long standing, some cases millienia, roots in Asia. Because he is overt racist who has said diversity is a weakness. Approved list divides everything into Christian and everyone else. Mormons are not included as Christian, although the full name is Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and they absolutely consider themselves Christian.

Ken Paxton released his first campaign as. Economy isn't mentioned and immigration only as sidebar to his main theme, James Talarico is "too low T for Texas". Talarico's sympathy for immigrants being a symptom of his lack of masculinity.
The helpful Jesse Watters contributed a list to important questions for Talarico. Does he own a gun? Does he own a truck? Is he a Dallas Cowboys fan? Does he believe in premarital sex (that's an issue in 2026?) Does he wear women's underwear? Which does he prefer, manly American football or effeminate football (soccer)? Did he know the Spurs were playing?

Trump appointed as acting US Attorney for Wyoming a former January 6 insurrectionist named Darin Smith with no prosecutorial experience whose previous employment was televangelist. He was hauled over the coals by three judges after he botched prosecution so badly they were forced to dismiss charges against defendants charged with serious felonies including illegal possession of firearms, child pornography, even first degree murder.

Smith is no longer Acting US Attorney. Senate Republicans just confirmed him.

FBI just raided voting rights group in Ohio and are announcing possible criminal charges for unknown crimes. Claiming within evidence voter fraud. Not good faith. Not trying to get conviction. Force voting rights groups to spend resources on legal defense instead of registering voters, intimidate people from involvement, provide "excuse" to take over election with mass voter purge.
