DIdn't even know what to title this. Feel free to change. Video just released.

It's pretty amazing with everything going on that these dudes aren't laying low. Just acting like it's business as usual.

Seems like the decision to arrest him led to a needless escalation of this situation. Give him his ticket, tow his car so he can’t drive drunk, and call an Uber. So fricking stupid and tragic this guy is dead.

They're kind of like the Karens out there. Their world view is being challenged and are incapable of changing for the better. They are convinced this is the start of the race wars and they want to be on the ground when it happens.

These are the same people who have gotten away with this shit for decades (maybe not them personally)..and are stupidly unaware that people can record stuff and show others.

From what I can tell this cop was so bad at his job he got his ass beat by a drunk dude, his taser stolen, and had to use his last option to stop him from getting away. All of that in the span of like 30 seconds

that’s one terrible cop.

God damn!!!! Why'd he have to resist???

Cop who shot Rayshard Brooks dead is fired and police chief quits as bodycam shows the black man talking politely to officers seconds before he was killed and protests erupt across Atlanta
  • WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT
  • Officer Garrett Rolfe was fired from APD after fatally shooting Rayshard Brooks on Friday night
  • Officer Devin Bronsan, who was also present, has been placed on administrative duty
  • Wendy's restaurant in Atlanta was set on fire on Saturday night in protest over the shooting
  • Firefighters were unable to respond on blocked streets as the restaurant was engulfed in flames
  • Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields resigned on Saturday less than 24 hours after the shooting
  • Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot and killed near a Wendy's drive-thru in Atlanta late on Friday night
  • Two Atlanta police officers were called to scene at around 10:30pm on University Avenue on Friday
  • Cops received reports of a man who fell asleep in his car as it stood near the drive-thru window
  • Police say Brooks failed a field sobriety test and video shows him fighting with officers
  • Brooks is then seen grabbing a Taser from one of the officers and running away as two cops gave chase
  • New surveillance video shows Brooks turning and pointing an object at cops, which they say is a taser
  • Officers opened fire and Brooks was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital

Man, I don't care what's going on in society....... you can't fight cops. You just won't win. This makes me sick to my stomach.

They shot him in the back.

They knew where he lived. They had his car. He would eventually have turned up. He was wrong to fight with the cops but when they shot him the cops were not in fear for their lives, no one was in danger.

Just like many politicians, some cops are on power trips with the badge and their huge ego can direct and miscalculate good judgement.
I see parallels With politicians take no prisoner win at all cost regardless of issue just because they despise the other side and cops that think with the same mentality.

That's my issue on this situation. Listen, follow directions and things will go much smoother. By him resisting, fighting and then grabbing the cops taser he made the situation much worse. I don't think cops should be firing bullets in that situation or if they felt the need, why not shoot at the legs?

That man was peaceful until the cop decided to cuff him for a suspected DUI....this incident should have never been taken to that level...a good cop would have driven him home and just taken his keys or impounded the vehicle....drunks don't always make smart judgements under pressure but cops absolutely should..killing drunk people is not an option

I think we all agree that drunks on the road are a bad thing. I hope, though, that we all agree that there are better options to handle this than shooting. Even if the guy was running away.

Yes, he did take a taser from the cop, but there has to be a better way to deescalate things. Shooting someone as they run away has to be the last possible option.

Here's the thing about "if he didn't resist" or "if he just followed directions"...blacks are getting shot doing that too.

If your gut reaction to a drunk running *away* from you is to shoot him, you shouldn't be a cop.

Look at how many cases of white people resisting arrest don't get shot and killed.

That guy assaulted someone, and was a murder suspect. Weirdly enough, he didn't get shot.

I'm sensing a pattern here...

Drunk drivers are always arrested.

Police are taught to never shoot someone in the back unless it was to save the life of someone under immediate threat. Unless the officer tripped and fell to the ground accidentally setting off the gun shooting Mr. Brooks in the back thereby killing him, I see this as some level of murder. Firing the officer seems like a good first step in response.

I see no way that shooting someone in the back is an option when the suspect is running away.

If they're wielding a gun and chasing someone, if they're swinging a knife around. Those are about the only two ways you could justify it. But in this case, there was no way that this was the best option, let alone an option.

If they were turning to face someone with the gun or were close enough to stab someone and were threatening to do so then I could agree.

Should be like old Mayberry days....they wake up the drunk, give him crap on how they can hurt someone then takes them home, or let them walk to the jail house and lock himself up.

“Drunk drivers are always arrested.”

Maybe that’s something that could change. In this age of camera phones and mobile internet access, why does someone who’s only moderately drunk have to be handcuffed and hauled off to jail? If there isn’t a record that shows up with a license search, take the person‘a photo and other information and do a mobile booking, impound the car and call for a cab to take them home.

Totally agree.....BUT you can't fight with the cops! Not saying what they did was right, just saying that if you fight with the cops, this will happen. People out there have to realize this by now. It's just horrible.

I completely agree, don't fight with the cops.

But there are laws on books for fighting with the cops.

If the police and/or the public are not in danger, the penalty for fighting with the cops should not be death.

I understand your bigger point, but what about the times when people aren't fighting cops and get killed?

or when a white person is basically doing this X 10, rams their car into the police car, and runs off and doesn't get shot?
