I'm mixed. If we don't have to give up too much. I read this comment (and I like the idea) on Blazers Edge by someone named RJROB21:

"If the deal is on the table, you make it.

What would we have to give up? The three picks are a starting point, plus salary. I am not moving Deni in the trade, or what is the point? The best case scenario would be to pair Deni and Giannis. Jrue would be the draw to get him here, since they have a good relationship. You need a center so Don has to stay. So here is what I am thinking:

Jerami (Sorry bud, need to have that salary as the centerpiece)
Time Lord (I love him, but you need to give them some pieces they can move to entice the trade)
Scoot (Maybe they think they can fix his game. He is for sure an NBA player, just not sure to what degree, so they could bite on potential)
+Every MIL pick
+ORL pick
+Our 2030 pick.

Then we have two open roster spots, and suddenly there are no more questions about the two-way guys:
Sign Cidy
Sign Caleb

I would like to keep Shaedon (in no small part because I got his jersey recently and don't want him traded) but if he is the asking price, you simply will never have a chance at a top 25 player OF ALL TIME again; so you make the doggone trade."

In reference to my first post: Can anyone here look at the deal laid out by RJROB21 and not say, if all involved would go for it, we would have to make that move?

Also, Scoot may end up being better than Shaedon.....so it would be a hard choice either way. I think Scoot has the DOG factor. Sharpe? I think he is too mellow.

That's an overpay.
Maybe. Two actual picks and two young players isn't really that much. Scoot has thus far been a bust, largely because he cannot stay healthy. Shaedon is very talented but also very flawed.

You're going all in on a ring in 2026-2027.

Dame/Jrue
Tou
Deni
Giannis
Clingan

That's a championship starting unit. If Dame is unable to get back to a starting caliber player, you start Jrue and you look for shooting. Lots of shooting.

I'm curious about a couple things...

I don't think we can move Shae until after the season because of his PPP

Can we actually send Milwaukie's pick in 2029 back to them because of the weird trade language with Washington? They get the 2nd best pick of our Bos/Por/Mil picks. Do we need to get Washington to release the pick? Maybe we just have to promise the Bucks the best of those three picks?

I know this would be sacrilegious in here but I would include Camara instead of Shaedon. Front Line of Deni and Giannis would be adequate and, Shae's ceiling is much higher than Tou's.

I'll offer this counterpoint.

If we're going for Giannis, we are going all-in on the championship next season and in 2027-2028. Toumani is much more valuable than Shaedon in that short window. He's an All-NBA caliber defender and the Blazers will need shooters around Giannis. Tou is a better three point shooter than Shae.

You're right that Shae has a higher ceiling but we won't have time for that ceiling to manifest. We need immediate contributors.

We can trade Shae with his PPP. Usually in smaller deals, a PPP is much more difficult. But because of the size of Giannis' contract, it actually makes it easier to include him.
As for the picks, yeah, we'd just have to say best of the '29 picks, with Washington getting mid, us getting worst

I want Geoff Petrie not Trader Bob. Also this would be like the Nets trading for KG or the Nets trading for KD. Build incrementally, don't try shortcuts by stealing players who will never be thought of as Blazers when they retire

I wonder if we need to lock in the pick going to the Bulls so that we can free up some of our picks.

What is fair value for Giannis?

Best case for us is Scoot/Grant/Thybulle and picks for Giannis.

I'd go as high as Scoot/Shae/filler and picks for Giannis.

I wouldn't include Tou/Deni/Clingan. The whole point of this exercise is to go for a ring in 2026-2027 and we will need those three players to make that run.

I think Scoot/Grant/Thybulle/RW3 and picks for Giannis and Portis is a reasonable deal along what they're kind of looking for. Am sure others will top it, or say that they can. But does allow Milwaukee to bottom out if they so desire.

And don't worry about Tou, he can't legally be traded this season

Boston won a ring because they cut the line and added KG and Ray Allen.

The sad fact is that most teams have to have a top 5 player in the league to win a ring, and those players are extremely rare. You either need to get incredibly fortunate in the lottery or trade for a young guy that eventually grows into a top 5 player (SGA).

If you can jump the line and get a top 5 player (extremely rare) you do it.

I have a feeling this trade won't happen until this summer.

I guarantee we're not winning a ring with Giannis. I'd lay odds we don't make the WCF

Probably not. It's tough. There's likely more teams willing to bid in the summer, but it also eliminates current expiring deals being able to be used, which could hamper salary matching in trades.

Giannis won one time in 2021 against a very young team in Phoenix. But the Bucks have not done much since. He is a great player, but I don't think he can carry a team against the current competition in the West.

I would give up Scoot because I am not positive he will gel with Deni.
But I think it would be foolish to give up Shae since we just signed him for a reasonable contract.

What path do you see in the next 5-10 years that wins us a ring?
Nice false dilemma there. Your way means we'll be much worse off in 3-5 years with negligible difference in winning. Giannis is a dinosaur whom you can't build round even if he doesn't drop off a cliff.

Much worse off? Just because we traded Scoot and Shae? lol

I think its fairly easy (maybe not really easy but still) to see what GS etc can offer. You just have to beat that. Don't overdo it. Can you beat ACL/Butler, Moody, Podz and picks? Thats not hard. I just worry about gutting the depth and some starters and we become the shitty Milwaukee Bucks, while also losing future great picks. Some teams might be ok with that because eventually when these old guys leave, you have money, and sign FA. That aint us. So now they are gutted and starting from the absolute rock bottom with the draft.

I think Grant + Scoot + all the picks is what makes the most sense. I think it's overpay to include Sharpe. I would also include Hansen if need be as another young prospect for them to get it done. I would also take back Porter to help alleviate their cap. I would definitely try to make a deal work to get Giannis.
