Portland Coach- And Then There Were Two

just get it over with, ridiculously long process IMO

Ridiculously long? Olshey didn't start his search until after the draft. Then had free agency to focus on, and THEN turned to the coaching search. When the season ended is rather irrelevant if we had no GM in place to conduct the search, and then, the search didn't start until into July.

I see a lot of people thinking that this was just a round about way to give kaleb the job... I read it differently. I think stotts gets the job and they keep kaleb on as a #1 asst. I think that would actually be a good situation

This is how I see it as well.

Correct. It just feels long. They said more than once they wanted to establish the roster then get a coach to fit the roster. Bad roster >> Bad coach, apparently.

OK, OK, I'll be the first.... best to handle the zoo around here.
Denny convinced him to moderate the Blazers forum? Sweet. I wonder if he'll drop as much knowledge as the HCP?

Just hire Kaleb already. So stupid. I can't believe they are really considering him

Ridiculously long by design, and self-defeating by design.

The GM and coach should have been hired before the draft, which would have been far more alluring to any real coach like Sloan or Jackson. PA intentionally started the search later to make sure no real coach would accept. He still refuses to let someone more qualified than himself lead the team. This was all a less than imaginative ruse to placate the fans.

Of the 8-10 interviewed, the very worst 2 remain. Olshey is a mental Clipper and is making the Blazers in the Clippers' image. Prepare for a painful death for this team for a decade.

I have a problem with Kaleb's vision for the team. He hasn't any so far as I know. He'll "coach" but does he know how to develop a team? From film room boy to head coach concerns me. As to Stotts, I have open mind. I wonder if these are the only two still interested.

Stotts is a former low Sonic assistant coach under McMillan (not the top assistant). I have read nothing but negatives from fans of his subsequent teams.

If hiring Canales means Shabazz Muhammad, then I'm a huge Kaleb fan

Either coach will get us a really high lottery pick next season so I'm not sure why you guys are complaining.

Why can't they just fucking decide? They were down to 4 canidates. I think we'll be better off if Canales an learn more as an assistant. If he fails, he'll get fired and it will be a waste of a young talent.

If we would have been quicker we could have had Jacque Vaughn. Damn

I'm not a big fan of retreads, but....

Lenny Wilkins 75-89 (In Portland before being fired)
Lenny Wilkins 150-74 (First three years after Portland in Seattle. 1 championship, 2 finals appearances, 3 conference finals)

I guess every situation is different?
