Just heard it on ESPN. They're having a player/coach meeting tommorrow.

The Ducks are certainly looking like the favorites right now with their remaining schedule in the Pac-10 to win the conference. Cal beating USC will be a big help.

Why would they want to? This LaMichael James seems to be better.

You can never have enough good running backs. Especially with Chip Kelly's system. 2 or 3 good running backs is a crucial.

Hmm, not sure how I feel about this. While I feel the initial reaction was way too fact and too harsh, I don't think that going back on a punishment like that sets a good example for the rest of the players.

Although, perhaps there are some reasons for why Blount acted the way he acted. :dunno:

You know the media (hypocite Canzano for one) will probably have a field day with it, but if they reinstated him that would be the right thing....he never should have been suspended for the whole year in the first place...what he did was wrong...circumstances or not and he certainly deserved some type of punishment for it.....just not a whole season....

well this surely shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

Well, as a Duck fan, and after watching the Michigan player give the Notre Dame player a sucker punch and get suspended one game ... if Blount is onboard, why not give him another chance? He could have dropped out of school, he could have become a distraction, but instead, by all accounts, he's been a leader to the young RBs in practice.

Another poor analogy. If he only sucker punched a player and didn't try to go after a fan, and have to be restrained, AND have a past issue, maybe this potential obvious Raideresque move by the Ducks wouldn't be laughable.

This makes the Oregon athletic department look very weak.

Hmm...not sure how I feel about this. When Blount first did it, I was as much of an advocate as anyone to suspending him for the season. But he's said and done all the right things since then...and it seems to me like there's quite a few fans who want Blount back and think his punishment was too severe. Personally I'm not one of them: I'll never forget how embarrassed and ashamed I felt when I saw Blount punch someone, then try to fight off a cop in an attempt to run up into the stands. It was a sad, pathetic night for Duck fans to say the least.

This is a tough call...really tough call. I'll put my trust in Chip Kelly, Mike Belotti, and every other power at the UO to make the right decision.

Yeah, I can see that argument as well. That said, it's not like Hout didn't instigate a confrontation with Blount, and Hout didn't even get a game for his post-game shoulder slap and smack-talk.

Maybe if it was later in the season, but it feels too soon.

Yep. Couldn't the announcement at least waited one more week? It's not like Blount would be needed for WSU. If he is needed, the team needs more than Blount anyhow.

Who didn't see this coming? Why else would they let him practice with the team.

NCAA should suspend him for season since they haven't punished him yet lol

I always thought the punishment was a little harsh, so I'm fine with him playing the final 5 games of the season.

+1 Blount has had issues before this. It isn't like he was an angel before (then again, what college player is) and he did go after fans.

This is what I suspected back when they announced it. Another "path to redemption" for a UofO football player. I can see Bel is still calling the shots.

First, if Blount had been the #1 TB on an SEC team, the suspension may have been the 1st quarter of the next game.

Second, I supported the season long suspension- and still do.

Third, if Blount is genuinely remorseful and done all the right things when left to himself to do so or fall again, there's something to be said of forgiveness. If the team feels he has really turned over e new leaf, then I'll go along with it as the coaches are closer to the true situation than I.

Fourth, if he is reinstated, at least the team prooved they can beat anybody in the country on any given Saturday and no one can argue he's coming back because the team needs him to win.

All that said, were it me, I'd leave him suspended. Sometimes life's lessons are tough ones, but they serve to make us better people.

Do any of you think the injury issues play a factor in this? Didnt they move a DB to RB after the Blount suspension? They probably need that DB back on defense with Thurmond done for the year.

Intersting thought, but I'm thinking not. Just a gut feeling.

Ducks have a chance to win the Pac 10 and beat Cal and USC in the same year for the first time in a looooong time. Does this also factor in?

Roy is a great SG, but with Roy and Rudy Portland is a better club. Blount did set the all time UofO touchdown record last season and is projected as a high pick in the NFL draft. In his absence Crenshaw Barner and Alston have seen more snaps.

fans looking down their nose at the way this has been handled are following the wrong game. This was handled predictably and well by the Ducks athletic department and as long as they're comfortable giving him another shot it's their call. Of course there will be egg on their face if there is another incident, but they're well within the standards of the sport making this move.

predictably and well?

It's gone from he's gone from the game to he has a (good) chance to go back to the game. This isn't a pro club, though it has the best owner in college sports, it's a college team run by a public university that is stating one thing and then turning around less than a month later and reversing course. And according to some had this "secret plan" in place all along. On top of that this is what, his fourth chance? But I guess some teams just never change no matter who the coach is...

Barner is who you are thinking of. I could be wrong but I thought he was moved to RB in the spring, and is now practicing with with both offense and defense since Thurmond went down, but as a "precautionary measure" in case another DB goes down. But I'm having a hard time keeping up with all this from Vacation sorry.

Just heard the press conference and it sounds like Blount could be back by the Stanford game if he meets all the requirements Chip laid out for him.

Using terms terms like "according to some" and "secret plan" when talking about situations like this don't help your credibility.

And could you elaborate about your last line?

You know, if Blount accepted the terms of and met all the conditions of the suspension and stayed in school thinking there was no possibility of reinstatement, then I have less of a problem with reinstatement than I would have if he was told to keep his mouth shut and behave so they could finagle him a chance to play again.

Did that make any sense?

That's why I think Oregon is being smart about this by being upfront about this decision. He said that this all came together the day before the Cal game (if I remember correctly) and Kelly doesn't seem like the type of person that would lie about something this.

I'm neither for nor against Oregon football, but I watched all of the Kelly press conference. Assuming that what he said was true, I have no problem with this. There are "academic, behavioral and football ladders" he has to meet, and has been meeting with Tony Dungy, among others.

If he does the work to make his reinstatement, I have no problem with it.
