This really isn't very fun but is a necessary evil indulgence.
Let's see...conference game on the road, traveling to a higher elevation and potentially without our star QB and RB...
UO: 56
CU: 17
I spent more time looking at the OSU/WSU matchup this week, but did look over CU's depth chart and stats. Ugh...
A few things that jumped out:
1. CU doesn't have a single OL that is over 300#. Most of their line is an "inflated 290#'s", meaning, closer to 280-285. This is going to be a great game to get our 2's and 3's some major playing time.
2. CU runs a primary 3-4 with a NT that is undersized and two DE's - one being 245#'s. One of their CB's is 5'8", 180# (SO) and the other is 5'11", 185#. They've lost their best LB. SS is around 5'10 and 195#.
These guys are small and so unfortunately out matched. Our massive and quick OL is going to open run lanes to drive trucks through, and be it Thomas or Bennett under center, they are going to have all day to throw. Tuinei (6'5", 206) is going to be an extremely tough matchup and I foresee our WR's creating a lot downfield running room. I think we see some very vanilla play calling in this game and even with that our RB's put up some big numbers.
Ricky Heimuli is coming off one of his best games and seems to be getting game conditioned. Our DL is going to light up that undersized CU OL and make it a long day for a team that is avg less than 90 ypg rushing and has only scored 18 TD's on the season, despite playing ONE top 25 team. Hansen actually isn't all that bad -- 13 TDs and 3 INTs on the season. He's been sacked 19 times though (DT - twice) and because CU has no run game and the OL is so undersized, he's pretty much running for his life most of the game. They also lack a dominant WR.
Here's to no injuries on either side of the ball and lots of PT for our 2's and 3's. Go Patos!
