I just don't get why these Portland writers think they're bullet proof in terms of their ability to get the story while bagging on the GM - burning bridges through social media. I'm no lemming, but I thought Olshey did a great job of telling it like it is last night. You want someone who can handle the pressure when it's cookin'. In Olshey I Trust!

John Canzano
@johncanzanobft

I’ll judge Neil Olshey on his roster not his demeanor. The guy is an actor.

Just listening to this now. Relatively entertaining. Seems like NO gave no fucks. I guess it is a good attitude to have. You can't put your eggs all in one basket. If one opportunity goes away, go with Plan B, Plan C, etc.

Is it possible to start a fire canzano and quick rally?

I'll never understand why a team like the Blazers put up with the bullshit from a paper like the Oregonian.

The Blazers hold all the cards.

What can the Oregonian do? I mean, really, what can they do? Trash the team? They already do that. The paper is dying. They already had to downsize. They have no clout. They have no power. I would pull their credentials. Bar them from the arena. I would forbid the players from talking to them. What are they going to do? Watch them shrivel up and die. Or I guess they could always give them Sly's spot up in the rafters with zero locker room access. I'm willing to bet he'd love the company :devilwink:

are there any reports about how NO's wife is recovering from the emergency appendectomy and its complications?

I get that Quick and Canzano are hack-frauds, but rooting for any outlet of information to die inevitably leads to canned PR being foisted on to people without a critical eye.

The number of people in this thread crowing about Olshey being able to sell ice-cream to Eskimos don't seem to grasp that ultimately we're the Eskimos in this scenario.

One thing I buy, is that Neil and LMA are on the same page.

http://forwardcenter.net/blazers-prepare-for-next-season-with-48-really-good-hours/

“I hung up with LaMarcus a half hour ago,” said Olshey. “LaMarcus and I speak multiple times every week. He was as bemused by the report as I was. Thankfully I had other things to distract me today from getting too infuriated about the misreporting.
“I spoke with LaMarcus, I actually asked him ‘How would you like me to address it?’ and he said ‘Just say it’s not true. You and I know where we are right now.’ It was misreported, it’s not true. I can tell you he has not informed anybody in this organization of his intention not to return to the team. We’ve always known that LaMarcus was going to have a robust free agent market, it was a market we were going to compete in, it’s a market we’re still planning to compete in. But in no way has he given us any indication that he is not returning to the Trail Blazers.”

And where is that? IMO, Neil has to keep the Blazers competitive to keep LMA. Extremely tough to do, but at the same time every other team that's a possible destination is facing the same battle.

I think I am more inclined to believe Neil. Odd thing, go to any of the rumor sites, or any of the supposed "Sports news" sites, and almost every rumor that LMA is heading out of tome has been credited to the oregonian hacks and clownzano..

but aren't you defending the factual errors of 2 of the most prominent sources of blazer info? who's lies do you prefer?

actually the most recent one being quoted by national media came from gunderson over at the Columbian and his "western conference executive", Haynes was the problem reporting Chicago as LA's preference to be traded to last summer

What good is the Oregonian though? They don't break news. They don't provide objective news. They're a tabloid. I hope they wither and die.

I don't. I want a diversity of opinions and information. I'm not saying that what we get from them currently is great of even good, but I certainly don't want to be left with nothing but canned PR released as "news" or having to rely on ESPN to get any kind of second opinion.

There are a number of other outlets. It's not like the Oregonian is the only game in town. There's radio, TV, the internet, and other print like the Columbian and the Tribute.

Like I said, I want a diversity of opinions and sources. If the 'Big O' goes away, that's just one less option (even if it is a poor one).

I couldn't hear the LA question at the start of the presser last night. Listening now, that doesn't sound like something Olshey would make up. He was very straight and to the point. There were a lot of other ways he could have answered it if he knew otherwise without outright lying.
