OT PROTESTS IN DOWNTOWN PORTLAND TURN VIOLENT

I just love "objective" journalism:

Four people have been arrested after violent clashes between Antifa activists and members of the far-right group Patriot Prayer broke out in Portland, Oregon.

Violence broke out in downtown Portland, Oregon, on Sunday as Antifa activists stormed a Patriot Prayer rally.

But sure, neither of these sites have an agenda. They're just "reporting the facts". Can't imagine why this country is so divided...

How would you have written the lede?

Wasn't there, have no information. Plus, I'm not a journalist.

Maybe I misunderstood your post. I thought you were saying those examples were non-objective in some way?

One makes a point to identify the Patriot Prayer group as "far right", making it look like Antifa was attacked by extremists. The other paints Antifa as creating the violence by storming a peaceful rally. You don't see the opposing bents in the reporting?

Not really, no, although I do understand your point.

I suppose they could have said "far-left Antifa and far-right Patriot Prayer meet at Mt Tabor to fight", and that would maybe be more neutral.

But I don't see any agenda underlying either version of the actual lines.

I think he may have been saying that assigning the label "Far-right" for Patriots' Prayer, or that the Antifa activists "stormed" them, allows those who engage in echo chamber-ism to continue. Since you asked (and I'm not a journalist, either), I'd say something like:

"Political Rally in Portland Sparks Violence."
"Members of Patriots' Prayer, a group dedicated to 'fighting corruption and big government with the strength and power of love', and counter-protesters identifying with AntiFa, anarchism and anti-right-wing ideology clashed in Portland Sunday...etc, etc. etc."

By calling them "alt-right" or "far right" (even though they adamantly disavow any racist or Nazi tendencies, if you look at their work), they are being propped up by some of the media for purposes of letting Antifa off the hook for their "punch a Nazi" campaign.

We'll chock up "protesting" as another one of Trump's creations for you.

and who is this "we" you speak of. You speak for one person and one person only and quit putting words that I never said into what you think I said.

From what I've seen from blue checkmarked journalists on Twitter the last few years the person that wrote this was probably at the protest dressed in all black too.

Yeah, I understand, I just don't think those are such unreasonable descriptions.

Ha ha. Yes, and I'm Tinker Bell.

Are Antifa corruption, or big government? And do Patriots Prayer have "l-o-v-e" tattooed on their knuckles? Because that's the only way they were fighting with the power of love.

So are you saying that all far-right groups are racists or Nazis? I wouldn't have said that.

Say te]So are you saying that all far-right groups are racists or Nazis? I wouldn't have said that. barfo[/QUOTE]

No, I'm saying that's the signal that justifies violence for AntiFa. It's the New York Times' definition:
NYT said:
The alt-right, or alternative right, is a loosely-connected and somewhat ill-defined grouping of white supremacists, neo-Confederates, neo-Nazis, neo-fascists, and other far-right fringe hate groups.

Say what you like about Patriots' Prayer, they denounce white supremacy/Nazism and racism. And have so publicly multiple times. Says their Japanese-American leader. But if AntiFa gets to say they're Nazis, they get to punch them. :dunno: That's what's fucked up.

and who is this "we" you speak of. You speak for one person and one person only and quit putting words that I never said into what you think I said.
Bait and switch: Make comment essentially begging for a response then whine when you get one.

Boo hoo. I'll interpret your over-generalized troll statements however I please.

But you said alt-right. The anonymous writer Platy quoted said far-right, which is a bit different.

Neither group has a clue that they are part of a psychology study on the long term affects of smoking marijana.

So far, this study, and several others, show "some" people have shown an increase in violent behavior from both long term and casual smoking of marijana.

Sure, you can post anything you want within reason. I have no idea what this bait and switch you speak of and what this trolling garbage you bring up. Apparently you have become confused. And for the record, I wasn't whining about anything. Merely pointing out that you're trying to speak for others when you post "we" where in fact you only speak for yourself. Many of your posts come across as very immature and angry as you continually prefer to attack rather than discuss. I hope you have the bestest day. It seems like you really need one.

You mean you didn't have an argument so you picked apart grammar instead? Then proceeded to spout off a line of passive aggressive remarks and veiled insults while simultaneously trying to imply that I am the one who is angry and bitter?

Ok.

Yawn. No sense having a discussion with you. My dogs are more entertaining.

I find that interesting because the destructive riots were happening the moment he was elected, and they weren't Republicans.

No republicans were at Charlottsville? That's an interesting take.

Portland just needs to change its name ot Protestlandia.

I can say that now cause I don't live in that hellhole anymore. ;)

Some people have way too much money and time on their hands to hang out downtown waiting for the next protest or march.
It really is getting old to the point that who knows what the agenda is anymore. Nobody cares because all it is is vandalism and violence.

They are actually stifling their own agenda with overkill.

Last year I paid attention to it all. This year I really could care less.
