Just got back to the hotel here in San Antonio. As I was walking in Wes and Nolan were on their way out with coach Canalas heading to the gym to get some extra work in! Very impressive!

Is MB your new role model? You fluffer!!:ghoti:

So is Smith going to get off the bench this year in your opinion?

I have no clue. I think Nate likes the feel of having Crawford out there handing the offense (in spite of his shot selection). I think he has had to put up with rookie back ups ever since he came here and likes a proven vet out there. I honestly haven't seen Nolan play enough to form an opinion.

Fluffy, you should be impressed with Matthews, because he's tired, but not Nolan, who isn't.

Not sure exactly what this means, but if you are attempting to crack on The HCP, well done.

It has multiple meanings. But regardless, it's all love, my man. I appreciate your insight as you're (obviously) closer to the team than any of the rest of us.

Yeah, the rooks should be putting in the extra work. But as many players don't put the time in to get better, you have to appreciate that Smith does have this quality. If he fails in the NBA, it won't be from lack of effort.

They get paid millions of dollars to be good at basketball

I don't applaud people for doing their job

Are you one of those angry fans? Just giving props to some guys going above and beyond.

That shouldn't be considered above and beyond

That's how low expectations have come for millionaire professional athletes

Damn, nevermind. Wonder if a rich pro athlete refused an autograph request when you were a child.

Not sure why you're taking it so much to heart

Them playing basketball, when that's what they're paid to do, is simply not that impressive to me. It should be expected.

Glad to hear it HCP and think its cool when you give us any updates.

Some fans are just bitter and jealous about their pathetic lives so they have to tear down successful people to try and feel better about themselves.

Mathews seems like the kind of guy that will never take an NBA career for granted. Going undrafted may have something to do with that.

What do you do for a living, RoyToy?

Thanks mucho HCP, and that why guys like Chris Palmer are writing things like this:

"Chris Palmer of ESPN.com (Insider) writes that Portland Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews is one of the five most underrated players in the NBA.
-------------------------
Matthews has been so consistently overlooked that the idea of him being underrated might not be what it once was, since it's mentioned so often. It's clear why that is when you actually look at what he does. His scoring and rebounding averages have steadily risen the past two seasons, and he's making his name as a hard-nosed defender. There are few shooters who are more accurate from all over the floor than this third-year shooting guard. In fact he's one of just three players who's shooting at least 47 percent from the field, 38 percent from 3 and 87 percent form the line (Ray Allen and Mario Chalmers are the others), which all adds up to the best true shooting percentage in the Blazers' starting lineup.

Another huge plus to Matthews' game: He doesn't make mistakes. Among players averaging at least 33.4 mpg, Matthews turns the ball over the least at 1.2 times per game.

Amazing that the one person that gets what I'm saying this thread is MM. It really must by Friday the 13th.

The rest of you....lol

I get what you're saying--I just think that what you're saying makes you sound like a tool.

I respect guys who put in the extra effort compared to other NBA players. It's easy to get fat and lazy once you've reached the big time, but the guys who actually continue to work on their game and grow are the ones you want to hold onto. I think Wes is a great guy to have on the team. He works hard and brings 100% effort every night. It amazes me how some fans forget what it was like to have Rasheed on the team, who almost never took practice seriously and would take the fine rather than lift with the team.

I am going to name my 5th born "Matthews"... I shit my first boy is "Matthew"! I guess I already knew Matthews was going to be such a great player, that I envisioned to honor him with my first born! - - - - Scary!

Or Drexler... He was notorious regarding his lack of training or practice. Could you imagine just how good he could have been by just working on his game? I think we had a taste that one year he actually started for the all-star game.

I like hearing these updates too. Sure it should be expected but I would guess not everyone is doing it. HCP is probably never going to tell us either when one of the Blazers is just a slack POS. Think the only time I have ever heard either of the Mike's or HCP talk down on a Blazer is when they are off the team.

Tell Wes to work on that mid-range jumper!

He has that pump fake from three all day.

Now I'm being compared to that kool-aid drinker Barrett? There are many things I could have posted over the years on here that you guys would have loved to have known, but for the sake of my career I didn't. I see and hear stuff all the time that goes unreported. Just thought I'd give those guys some love for doing a little extra.
