One of the finest swing/jazz guitarists ever has passed away. Herb was known for his duets and trios with other great guitarists, notably Joe Pass, Charlie Byrd, Tal Farlow, and Barney Kessel, and of course as 1/3 of the Oscar Peterson Trio.

Herb wrote this hit with Johnny Frigo and Lou Carter. Here he is playing it with Ella.

A wonderful guitarist. I used to own an ES-165, although it had two humbuckers with tone knobs rather than the Herb Ellis model which had one neck humbucker with no tone knob. Needless to say, I was a pretender. As much as I strove to be a jazz guitarist, I couldn't hold a candle to guys like Herb Ellis. He'll be missed.
