They were one of the greatest American live bands ever. Any era, up against any band. Nick Hornsby always said he thought they were what young America sounded like in the 70's. Detroit kind of adopted them because they would rock Cobo Hall like nobody else. Rest In Peace Bro.

In the early '80s the Eagles, U2 and Billy Joel all opened for J. Geils on the road.

I saw the J. Geils Band at the San Diego Sports Arena in 1974 just after they hit the big time. Still far and away the best concert I ever saw. Talk about bringing the house down.....And their live album Full House is still my go to when I want to pump myself up........"take out your false teeth Mama, I wanna suck on your gums......" Classic!

Damn. Didn't hear about this until I saw this thread. Great band. Damn.

I musta got lost.

Prolific and gifted songwriter and musician.

In the 1960s and 1970s, we kind of wondered what would happen to the rockers when they became geezers. Obviously they have staying power and perform well even in old age.

I saw them open for Chicago in 1972 and several times through the years....they were a party staple band in San Diego through the 70s....I enjoyed them but it could have been the recreational substances during the show....!

I love rock bands with a horn section...J Geils harmonica player was a horn section even by himself...amazing how much sound comes from a 5 dollar harmonica

I loved how they gave Magic Dick (and his lickin' stick) a full quarter of the stage. Otherwise the rest of the band would have gotten injured every night when Dickie took off on one of his solos with full gyrations included. There's a reason he was called Magic Dick. And I alway thought his harmonica was electrified......either way, the guy is a legend.

Somewhere in my CD collection I have a live double album recording of there's and it rocks...have to go dig it out and dust it off today.

Full House will be cranked up next Wednesday morning as I head out of the driveway on my road trip. You can't start an adventure any better than that!

Bought Blowing Your Face Out when I first started collecting vinyl.... Still one of the greatest live sets ever. "BABY BABY BABY BABY! I MUSTA I MUST I MUST I MUSTA GOT LOOOOOOST!!!!!!"
