R.I.P. Roger Nichols

Extraordinary recording engineer, "The Immortal" Roger Nichols has died.

From inventing the first digital drum replacement (Wendel sampling computer) taping his buddy Frank Zappa in high school, The Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, CSN&Y, Al DiMeola, to earning 7 Grammy's for perfecting Steely Dan's sound, he will always be "heard".

Nichols was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer on May 29, 2010. In early 2011 he was reported to be "fighting for his life," and after nearly a year of medical treatments he and his family were reportedly "all but bankrupt."[11] Nichols died on April 9, 2011, aged 66.[2]

We live in one of the few nations without free health care.
