Action from our old buddy Tropical Storm Colin started around 4:30 this this AM. From what I see of the track it's going to make landfall around 8:00 PM so there will be mucho rainfall today. My sympathies go to those who live in the local beach towns where rain and high tide makes for an unpleasant situation.
 
Worse art is that the storm does not have a clearly defined track. Though moving north and east the rains and winds are to the south and west. Not much worse than a typical Florida on time rain but it's been going on since $:30 AM. Pinellas County floods on regular storm occasions but much worse today in conjunction with high tide. And of course there is the usual run of idiots that tempt fate and run down to the beach. Bad gig in this state because of the lightning. Myself , chickie and dog have pretty much hunkered down.

Just did a track check, about 70 miles from North Florida Coast going 23 MPH with 50 MPH Winds. Might be coincidence but Turner Classic Movies is airing Key Largo at this time.
 
Looks like a real nasty storm, be safe Michael.

Used to cross the 405/5 Interchange North at the same early 4am time, the CHP Motorcycle Cop went off that cut in half Fwy-bridge (200+ feet up above the canyon ground); in 94, had commuted the very same route and time, just one year prior, and would of been directly in the same vicinity give or take a mile or 2, (which was all rubble also)...

*** all the big quakes, I've been lucky to of been awoken in the bed, (Landers, Big BearX2, Northridge, Fillmore, Garlock). The Sylmar Quake of 71 on the road driving to work and never felt a thing, tho' the house was cracked, windows all broken, et al.
Whittier quake a rocker from hell, was in a 4th story Plant, the cement floor looked like a rolling wave, yelled "under your desks" and 100 peeps stood, froze and stared at each other, dumb fkng sheep. A hard after shock latter that day was on the bottom floor, watching the walls buckle, thinking we were going to be 1 foot tall, before the shaking quit. The longer the more damage(s) of course, so every second is counted by all...
 
Crossed the Florida bend a couple hours ago but put down some really heavy rains with occasional wind gusts all night and up to this hour. Looking at the track looks like Georgia is next though the damn thing may wimp out when it comes ashore. This area floods like a bitch in the rainy season I'd not venture anywhere near the beaches today. Saw videos on the Texas flash floods, remember those from my times in San Antonio and Houston, flat out dangerous. Hopefully Colin will be done here by mid-day.

My area is not a flood zone, if it were I'd be up the creek without a paddle no boat, would have to hitch a ride in with a boat owner. I will say though that if I heard of any hurricane of any type going to hit this area full tilt boogie, myself, chickie, and dog would be in the car and gone. Back when Andrew hit in'92 I was working for a Cable TV Company and our company sent people down there to help out. My brother was stationed at Homestead AFB and rotated out two weeks prior. That area was devastated. Many of the folks who fled the area were up in Orlando, some had huge checks from the insurance company. On the other hand I met some who were informed that their insurance company could not cover their losses. I'd have to take a weapon to someone in charge.

Shit, Andrew was a Bastard from Hell, seems like it crossed over south FLA, then into the Gulf and back again, or something like that....? Not sure, other than I do recall it being as horrific, maybe more-so than Katrina, as far as utterly blown apart Home-Steads, (no pun intended)...
 
A friend of mine who believes in such things told me there is a Seminole Indian Legend that "protects" the Tampa Bay Area from hurricanes. I'd believe that the '16 Yankees will win the World Series before I'd take that legend to heart. There is actual scientific fact that this area is protected more so by it's geographical location in conjunction with travel plot and wind speed. But again, Pinellas County is surrounded by water on three side with one evacuation route going overland to the North. The other three north or east routs are bridged with the road running low to the water line even on sunny days. And forget the Sunshine Skyway going a southwest route, I've been across that thing only twice, never again, very scary ride even with low winds. Look like now we've got Colin pretty much gone from this area.
 
...^^^yeah, it rained all day here yesterday...got about 2 1/2 inches of rain that we sorely need...but the folks East of us goy even more.
 
Per the local new channel St Pete got 11 inches total rainfall, factor in the beach areas tidal surges and they are still sweating those for the next couple of days. Is the storm in your area or has it passed on to sea?????????????????

Checking out reports, some serious flooding in areas, in St Pete Beach surge levels are at a point where residents are asked not to do laundry, flush toilets, bathe ect ect.
