Anyone watching this? It's being broadcast live on Comedy Central right now. Any one care to guess how many people attended this rally? Holy shit.

Can't restore what was never there in the first place.

Love Sheryl Crow's singing. Her political views? Not so much.

My scientific estimate of the crowd size is one hundred billion.

The way I did this calculation was to check one square foot, which was 100% populated. I then extrapolated that out to the size of the area. The result was infinite crowd size, but I regressed that back to one hundred billion to account for possible sampling error.

Fascinating! Could you tell us how many people were ACTUALLY at the million-man-march?

my favorite sign i saw while watching was "Forget Tea ... Drink Kool-Aid"

215,000 according to the company that counted 85,000 for Beck's event.

They're obviously liberally biased. There was over a million people at Beck's event, and probably 15000 at the comedy show (headlined by the Decembrists btw)

Beck vs. Stewart. That's akin to comparing teabags against pop rocks.

Actually, I think it's like comparing an insane guy who changes his opinion on things because he makes him more money. He doesn't care about what he's really saying, because he knows his audience eats it up like it's candy, which in turn makes him more money. His researchers are anything but diligent, and he's a con artist.

the other is Jon Stewart.

One had a major network promoting his rally, the other didn't. One is promoting logical discourse, the other isn't.
So in a way, I think it'd be more like Beck = very vocal minority who annoys the majority of the country and is screwing things up for people (esp old people who he cons into buying and selling gold and food insurance) and Stewart = everyone else who wishes the vocal minorities on both sides would shut the hell up and quit fucking things up for the rest of us.

"If we amplify everything, we hear nothing."

Best line from his speech.

Somebody one said, "Never underestimate the ignorance of the American public ."

Obviously, he listened. ;)

Or, he could just become a satirist/comedian. *shrug*

His speech was amazing, but too bad it was lost on most in attendance. Most people of my generation and culture (young, left-leaning, disillusioned college students) consistently generalize about the right wing and demonize them... which is exactly what we were fighting against when conservatives were doing it from 2000-2008.

John Stewart has always been the voice of reason in all of this, but even his base of supporters ignore what he really stands for.

Not hearing much about the hundreds of thousands of dollars the guys raised for charity. Just a lot of braying from the newspapers and blogs.

Unless I missed the entire point of the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear and I'm not sure why we would even compare it to Beck's event.

What did you think about the event?

I really enjoyed it. I made one of my huge Republican friends come down just for the lulz. We only spent an hour or so at the event and decided to go look around DC a little bit. I kept thinking, imagine if you were a tourist and didn't speak any English and you were in DC for the day. I feel like it would look weird from that point of view.

Anyway, getting out of DC was a nightmare.

Did the speakers wear actual clown suits?

I would guess that $400k out of the $500k+ was raised purely by Reddit. I am really happy to read that Stewart's group was focused on helping out the mall. Did anyone hear if there was a "huge mess" left by the rally?

Interesting text from the poster of that video Maxiep

Please remember three things about these people:

1.Not even close to all Democrats are twerps, but every single twerp in this video is a Democrat.
2.Said twerps hate you, and want you to die in a fire.
3.If you vote on Tuesday, they’ll hate you even more
