Please don't put this in the other thread, that one went to shit a while ago.

“The city is a big factor,” Wells said. “You don’t want to go to a team that is traditionally bad, either. He’s been in the league for two years — really more like a year and a quarter — and he hasn’t tasted the playoffs and that’s something that he wants really badly. So, that will be a big factor, too.”

Sounds like he's a goner. Most Bucks fans know he's splitting.

I like Villanueva as a player but he wouldn't fit well here. He likes playing on the perimeter too much. Plus that would be impossible to get both of them, I think. I bet some people would want him just because he doesnt have a hair on his entire body. :devilwink:

I view Charlie as a SF though. He played a lot out of position due to the fact they already had Jefferson there, and Yi also making noise about playing time before that. So that being said, I do not view being a mostly perimeter guy as bad, unless he is unable to get to the hoop against other SF types because of foot speed. The thing is, a crafty player(Turkoglu type) can even get there when they don't have a foot speed advantage. I do not have enough knowledge of Charlie V to know if he has that in him.

Yeah, I was speaking of him as a PF, and we don't need another perimeter oriented PF IMO. If he could play SF he would be good and I've seen very little of his play too, but from what I have seen he doesn't seem that quick or crafty enough to play SF full time. More like in certain situations.

Yep and that's the same boat were in now. If Outlaw is on the court he is only effective against larger, slow footed opponents, like a PF playing out of position. You might just end up trading one guy with one weakness, for another. I have also heard Charlie V's defense leaves a lot to be desired.

I say we just get Sessions. If that actually happens I would be ecstatic.

Villanueva is a classic 'tweener. He can score in bunches and rebounds reasonably well, but doesn't have a big frame for a power forward and is too slow to guard on the wing.

I think he'd make a great backup power forward, but he wants to be paid like a good starter and would want to...start. As a starter, being paid starter dollars, there's no fit for him on Portland.

Just get Sessions. Let OKC or Memphis go after Villanueva.

I really hope KP makes a hard play for this kid ... I know I keep repeating this like a mantra, but this will go down as a huge opportunity wasted in a few years if we pass.

Me too. Something I keep repeating is that if I were to pick the best candidate to be the next Devin Harris (a well-regarded young point guard who blows up into a star), it would be Sessions.

When's the soonest we can get this done? I love Sessions! I'd imagine we would hang on to Blake and he'd be our back-up PG... leaving Bayless as our third PG (again), something I doubt he'd enjoy another time. But for Sessions it would be worth it.

If he's moved in trade it will have to be a sign and trade after the free agency period opens up at the beginning of July, same goes for extending him an offer sheet.

Frankly, if I was KP I'd strongly consider offering Milwaukee Bayless or Sergio in a sign and trade if it brought Sessions back. They might just bite on that since they risk losing him for nothing and Bayless probably has just as much upside as any of the other point guards they'd be selecting at number 10 on the draft board. Frankly, I think you risk major chemistry issues if you retain Bayless; signing Sessions basically tells him "we have no confidence in you" and he's likely going to want out ASAP (as he should). If we need a third point guard I'd consider drafting a guy like Collison or picking up a low cost veteran like Lindsey Hunter in the off-season for some emergency depth.

Then again, I just have this weird feeling that KP is going to sit on his hands this summer and make no real impact signings or trades and throw out the same tired platitudes we've been hearing for the past year "we like our team," "this is a good group of guys," "we want to see how these guys grow" blah, blah, blah. :sigh:

This is silly. Why give up one of our most valued assetts in Bayless when we don't have to? When we can just sign Sessions out right? Bayless will be a 2nd year guy locked into his contract, he has no say about his minutes until he's better than the guys playing in front of him. He was so irrelevant last season, I can't see him being relevant enough next season to disrupt chemistry. This is a non issue. Sergio? They can have him.

I wonder if Sessions is at that perfect age to think Portland is traditionally bad? Except for last year we have been throughouthis NBA and college days, and before that we were the Jailblazers. I would both think and hope not, but you never know?

I do love that his agent is concerned that he hasn't seen the playooffs after a whole year and a quarter. I am one who doesn't think Sessions is the right guy. Sue he is better than what we have, but what we need is Billups type. Someone who has been through it before. Someone who can lead us through the playoffs. Sessions probably isn't that guy since, as his agent said, he hasn't ever been to the playoffs.

KP will make a move, I think. He's got to sign someone... right?

I agree. If Sessions can be signed, then it would be foolish to off-load Bayless. However, I can also see Nik's point in that despite being "locked into a contract", Bayless would not take too kindly to another season riding the pine. If anything, getting Sessions will make Bayless more expendable (as much as I like him).

I doubt it. You'd have to be living under a rock, much less be playing in the NBA, to not notice that Portland is one of the youngest teams in the league with the second best record in the Western Conference. He's a little older than I am and I've always held Portland in high regard................ but then again I'm a fan. Go Blazers.

I disagree. Sessions is a flat out baller. If we sign him we'll never look for another starting PG ever again. Billups would make us a championship team but he's obviously not available. I assume you're referring to someone like Andre Miller, who would also be a good acquisition. I just think we've got to roll the dice on someone with as much potential as Sessions and THEN look for a veteran presence in other areas, such as SF or back-up PF.

Sessions started out behind Ridnour and Redd last season but when he took over as Milwaukee's starting PG he put up some incredible numbers:

-vs LAL: 16 points, 16 assists, 10 rebounds
-vs IND: 15 points, 17 assists, 7 rebounds
-vs DET: 44 points, 12 assists

23 years old!

I agree that Bayless would get angry if we get Sessions. What realistically would we do with Bayless then? I wouldn't be opposed to packaging him up with Outlaw to get a decent backup PF. Maybe Antawn Jamison? Would he play behind LMA? I could see Washington wanting Bayless, but I am not sure they would want Outlaw and then who would they start at PF? They could get a free agent with the money they will save by giving us Jamison.

A dreamer dreaming... but how does this look?

Sessions\Blake
Roy\Rudy
Batum\Webster
LMA\Jamison
Joel\Oden

I like it!

I like how the agent said he's been in the league for 2 years, and "hasn't tasted the playoffs yet", as if that's an eternity or something.

I'm fully on the Sessions bandwagon. He's one of the best up-and-coming guards in the League. Some of the numbers he put up last season were insane. He can really get into the lane, attack the hoop, drive-n-dish. BUT, his outside shooting is a big concern. Does anyone realize he shot .176 from three last season? Regardless, adding Sessions would be a steal.

I think he likes Portland OK; I went back to a Mike Barret interview with him after he worked out for Portland (Yes, Portland drafted Taureen Green over Ramon Sessions), and he says it was great to work out for a great NBA franchise like the Portland Trailblazers. Can't find it, but as I remember KP spoke highly of him, expected him to be an NBA player, so maybe he still has good feelings about PTB.

I am on the Jerryd Bayless bandwagon. No bringing in young pg's..bring in a good vet who has been there before so in 1-2 years, Bayless takes over starting.

I agree that Portland probably can't roll with Sessions and Bayless long-term, as neither will be happy with a backup role in the long-term. However, I wouldn't give Bayless to Milwaukee if I didn't have to. If there was no way to get Sessions without trading Bayless, I'd probably bite the bullet and do it. But if Sessions can be had basically just by signing him, I wouldn't work a sign-and-trade just to offload Bayless.

Since he's only played one year, he's contractually bound, so nothing needs to happen immediately. I'd rather use Bayless as a trade chip for another valuable asset than essentially throw him away because we now have another young point guard.

Alternatively, I'd gauge his mindset (were I GM and had this kind of access) and see whether he's capable of competing with Sessions and Blake for playing time and coming off the bench until then without becoming a problem. It would be nice to see who's better between Bayless and Sessions in a couple of years and trade the other one.

I can't see how Milwaukee would be interested in a sign and trade; if they do not have the financial wherewithal to sign an up and coming point guard , why would they want to take on equivalent salaries?
