Just a poll to gauge the general feeling overall. I sometimes feel like everyone except for me is really disappointed in Oden right now. Curious to actually see the results of this. How do you feel about his play and progress so far this season, based on what you thought he'd do coming into this year? Because I think we're all disappointed he missed his rookie season.

Really, you felt everyone but you was disappointed in Oden? I think I've been pretty clear (and vocal) about his having met my expectations just fine so far. ;)

Meh. He has his moments. About every 5 games he'll be solid. He's still not close to being 100% so I kind of expected this kind of production.

I expected him to go for about 12 and 9 this year. With that said to me 9 and 7 is close enough at this point to say that he has met my expectations, especially when I thought he'd be getting more like 26-28 mpg.

a bit disappointed, especially defensively. I never anticipated that the pick and roll would be such a problem. Offensively, at the moment, he's ahead of where I thought he'd be, I didn't expect him to be a force one-on-one in the post. Athletically, maybe I got spoiled from watching Aldridge move, but for a "physical freak," I was expecting a bit more.

So overall disappointed, especially since we only heard good things this summer. I think I've come to terms that he's probably not a "once in a generation" center. That said, he's still a great prospect and will probably be a top-3 center in the league. That's a good player.

I think Defensively there are so many things to learn for big guys. They are the last line of Defense, and unfortunately are being called on too much to defend the rim against guards that have gotten through. Greg needs to learn to jsut be big and not make the extra reach for the block. Once he does that he'll be fine.

I'm surprised so many are saying he's met their expectations. Most Blazer, including myself, thought he'd be around a 15/10/2 type of player this year. So yeah, I can say he's gone a little below my expectations.

The problem with the poll though is Greg hasn't quite reached my expectations, but I wouldn't consider him dissappointing either. So I voted met my expectations.

Disappointing. I expected more.

I'm not down on him at all, just expected more. And I bet most of you did too. (Including most that said "he met expectations")

If you asked KP he'd still say he wouldn't trade Greg for anyone in the League.

Does that just prove how stubborn he is? I'd trade him for quite a few of the young established superstars in this league. I feel like KP is falling too much in love with our players.

Exceeded my expectations.

Good poll, interesting results. I guess there aren't as many GO whiners on this forum than I thought. I'd like to see this poll ran after he gets into foul trouble and has a few bad games in a row :)

It's one of the flaws, maybe only flaw, that KP has. He's too buddy-buddy, father figure, friend than a boss. Having the relationship and mentality he vastly overrated a lot of the players on the team. It's one of the reasons, IMO, why Sergio Rodriguez is still on the roster. Probably same thing can be said about Outlaw.

I don't know that there is any evidence that he's buds with Sergio. Any more than, say, Jack, who he traded away.

Talk about a big assumption based on I don't know exactly what.

I wanted him to improve over the course of the season, and avoid any further serious injuries. So far he's doing just fine.

Good lord this meaningless All Star game has gotten to some peoples heads (this is not really directed to you OP). Has he been dissapoiting or a little underwhelming? Yeah, he has. However, anyone care to tell me when our incompetent team/coach remember that he is in the middle and give him the ball? Or how about when he is not in foul trouble what he does on the court? Dear God, is this forum always like this?

I didn't expect him to be quite so foul prone, but overall I'd say he's met my expectations ... that I would see flashes of greatness lurking amidst the inconsistency, and I've been pleasantly surprised to see some of his freakish athleticism come back as soon as it has.

I think I remember predicting something like 12/9/2 way back when on the assumption that he'd be logging around 30 minutes a game. So I guess from a per 40 standpoint he's pretty much on track -- as long as he starts cutting down on the fouls.

I expected 15/10 from him this year, with consistently awesome defense. As per that, he's been disappointing so far this season.

I knew he would have some problems with fouls at first, but not to the extent that we're witnessing.

That said, I think a lot the issues he has right now can be alleviated with a change to the way he's being used right now by Nate.

He's where I expected for this part of the season. I expect quite a bit more from him the second half of the season.

He's meeting my expectations perfectly. I just wish we had better perimeter defense so he didn't get in early foul trouble as often.

I expected 14/12/2 (iirc) in 36mpg. Even though he's only getting 23 mpg, he's averaging 15/12.5/1.8 per 36. Exceeds.
After the first stretch of games, he's been relatively injury-free.
Am I disappointed about the fouls? Not as much as him getting fewer than 6 shots per game.

If Nate's position is that having Oden on the PG on the P&R now makes him better later on, I'll trust him. I wish he'd lay a hard foul on someone a little more often.

Maybe you could argue that if we stand pat after the trade deadline, but until then I don't see where you're getting this from. Sure, KP plays the good to Nate's bad cop, but we haven't seen any unwillingness to trade players just yet.

I would say honestly, slightly disappointed. I think Greg would agree. He has looked a little slow and lumbering... and when I say that, I mean even since he has rounded into shape. We'll see, but I have dialed back my expectations a little. I love Greg- the person and the player. He is going to be very solid for us.

It is natural to feel uncomfortable about the Oden pick right now... with Durant coming on so strong of late. I think you have to look at the records of OKC and POR before you get too upset. Could we afford to pick the second best player out of that draft? Could OKC? We will be fine.

Meanwhile, Greg is becoming a beast and making us one of the best rebounding teams in the league. Durant can score 50 a game, OKC will still be in the lottery...

I still have wood over that block GO had on Jeff Green!

Greg's pretty good when he's on the court. He makes some rookie mistakes, a few things that lead to turnovers here and there, but his talent is great. He's had seven games where he's gotten 10 or more FGA up. In six of those seven games he's shot 60% or better. In fact in 31 of his 46 games he's shot 50% or better. He currently has the highest ORB/36 in the team's history (4.58) which is where he gets half of his points. He just needs to get over that foul trouble. He's target #1 when it comes to an opponent's game plan, and he probably always will be. If he figures out how to lower those fouls and gets a few consecutive games where he can be consistent, we don't even ask this question. That, and get a few more plays run for him.

Almost 2-1 thinking he has met or done better than expected. Not bad.

I really am surprised by the overwhelming number of posters that voted "Met My Expectations." I remember a thread before the season started that almost every posters predicted Oden's stats to be much better than his current stats. In fact, I remember a few posters were chastised for predicting a low stats line for Oden. Mind you, even the lowest predicted stats for Oden are still quite a bit higher than the stats Oden is currently averaging.

I would be lying if I said Oden has not been a big disappointment. Unlike a lot of posters, I don't excuse his high fouling rate. I consider his fouls to be a part of his weakness on defense. And on defense is where I have thoroughly been disappointed with him. He is very slow in reacting to help defense. On the pick and roll defense, he has been burnt time and time again. I understand that our guards' defense contributes to Oden's problems on defense, but Oden has also been part of the problems.

What I have been pleased most with Oden is his post defense. He is very good at not letting the post player getting good looks. Oden's improving footwork on offense and not getting the ball stripped is also very encouraging. His rebounding is also a plus.

Overall, I'm pleased with Oden on offense but defense he is really lacking. I wasn't expecting Oden to help us on offense, as I thought our offense last season was sufficient enough. But I expected a lot more out of Oden on defense. I'm certainly not giving up on Oden. I just hope he regains most of the mobility he showed before his MF surgery. Once he gets all his quickness back, I think the fouls will be a lot less frequent. He'll play better on defense if he can stay out of foul trouble.

Agree.

Some people are lying to themselves by saying "met expectations".

Anyone who thought he would do better then he has after missing an entire year of basketball and returning from microfracture surgery is a fool.
