Recommendations on aftermarket GPS systems?

I'd like to get a GPS. With a larger screen. And at least Text-To-Speech capabilities. Any suggestions?

I've had a TomTom one for about a year now, it works great and it cost 300 bucks. They have newer versions now which are even better and probably cheaper.

My dad and i have always used Navman's or TomToms. Get a modern(ish) one and you can't go wrong. I have the Navman F20 which is $179.99. Though i paid £79.99 (which is about $158.00) in a sale

My dad recently picked up the Garmin Nuvi 205, and seems to really like it.

I've only used it once (going from my house into/around Brooklyn), but I thought it worked great.

I have a Magellan, it was the cheapest one available at the time. It is always spot on and never gives bad directions. I also have one built into my phone (samsung instinct), and it also works very well, just isn't as user friendly.

My sense of direction lead me on a 50 mile detour just a few days ago.

Haha, I remember about 3 or 4 years ago we drove from Nebraska all the way to here and all I used was pages I printed from mapquest with directions.

Nowadays even if we go to NY, which is about 2 and half hours away, we gotta use GPS. I'm sure I can do it without it but it's much easier.

I recently drove from Cincinnati to PHX with no GPS. I had no problems with directions

Yeah its' pretty easy on the highways. You need GPS for bigger cities, if you're trying to find a specific location, street, etc.

But driving long distances with GPS takes pressure off of you. You might not have any problems with directions, but it's not exactly fun sticking your head out and looking at signs and such.

Lol i did a 5 hour journey the other day and was dared not to use my Gps. Did it just lol. but as Celticking said Highways/motorways are easy enough but Cities and such are harder to navigate around.

just download google maps on there as a backup for now. It doesn't have the talking feature, but it is atleast pretty accurate picking up where you are and can give you directions. I had to do that in Philly and it worked pretty well.
