I've had a TomTom one for about a year now, it works great and it cost 300 bucks. They have newer versions now which are even better and probably cheaper.

I recently drove from Cincinnati to PHX with no GPS. I had no problems with directions

But driving long distances with GPS takes pressure off of you. You might not have any problems with directions, but it's not exactly fun sticking your head out and looking at signs and such.
Where were you heading?
just download google maps on there as a backup for now. It doesn't have the talking feature, but it is atleast pretty accurate picking up where you are and can give you directions. I had to do that in Philly and it worked pretty well.LOL
That is another issue I have.
