The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, were aided by three players on assignment from the Boston Celtics on their way to a 112-93 win over Raptors 905 in their home opener Friday night at the Portland Expo Building. Assignee James Young scored 25 points and collected a career-high 15 rebounds in the victory. Terry Rozier added 16 points and 8 assists, while Jordan Mickey finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks.
The Red Claws (3-1) opened the game with a quick basket by Boston Celtics guard Terry Rozier, but 905 (0-4) clawed back to jump out to the early 6-2 lead with Toronto Raptors assignees Bruno Caboclo and Lucas Noguiera combining to spark the early run. Young launched a three to bring Maine back to within one before Caboclo hit a pair of free throws to extend the lead to 10-5. The Red Claws battled back with Corey Walden bookending an 8-0 run before Davion Berry converted to close out the first with the hosts on top, 17-15. The Red Claws would hold the lead for the remainder of the game.
Coty Clarke opened the second quarter with the hot hand for the Red Claws, rattling off eight points around a basket from Berry to lead a 10-2 run. Melvin Johnson put in five for the Raptors before Omari Johnson rattled off eight of his own to push the lead to 35-22 midway through the quarter. After two Caboclo free throws and another M. Johnson three chipped the Red Claws lead to 37-26, the Celtics assignees took over as Jordan Mickey scored on back to back possessions, including an authoritative putback slam, and Rozier scored the final three points of the half as Maine went into the locker room up 46-34.
The Red Claws, who had struggled so far this season in the third quarter, put the past behind them as the Celtics trio came out gunning, scoring 19 of Maine's 21 points in the first six minutes of the quarter. A quick timeout would turn things around for the Raptors, as they came out of the huddle on a 20-6 run around Scott Suggs and Jay Harris' strong shooting, with Suggs scoring nine and Harris 11 to close out the quarter by cutting the Red Claws lead to 73-66.
In the fourth quarter, Maine put the game away with 39 points, including 11 from Young, seven from Mickey and six from Rozier. Harris and M. Johnson combined for 15 of 905's 27 in the quarter, but the Red Claws closed out on a 14-6 run to seal up their third win of the season. The Raptors were paced by Harris (20 points, eight rebounds). Suggs (18 points, six rebounds), Caboclo (15 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks) and Johnson (15 points, five rebounds). Noguiera had four blocks for 905 in limited minutes.

Mickey (17 points, nine rebounds, five blocks), Johnson (17 points, six rebounds), Rozier (16 points, eight assists) and Clarke (12 points, seven rebounds, four assists) rounded out the Maine players in double figures.
