Rep. Greenlick Demands UO Hiring Investigation

You'd think a guy complaining about this would be named Orangelick.

Here is my email to the state congressman:

I have just read an article in the Oregonian that you wish to hold hearings on the hiring of the new UO football coach as you do not like the way their hiring process went despite the fact they adhered to the law regarding interviewing minority coaches for vacancies.

I cannot help but think of this as a monumentally stupid waste of tax payer money.

To think UO places racist views over the hiring of the best available coach or promoting from within is asinine at best. The university was caught off guard at a critical time of new player recruiting and the end result could be tens of millions of dollars in revenue for the state and university. They selected several qualified candidates, conducted interviews and settled on one.

But you seem upset they hired a white man. And somehow this has drawn your publicity seeking ire.

Your attitude is precisely the reason I have lost all faith in congressional officials.

May I suggest working on a way to boost employment, fix PERS, or work on any other of the state’s maladies rather than seeking unnecessary publicity for your ego. You are a servant of the taxpayer- not the other way around.

Why didn't they just require UO to hire a black guy, because obviously that's what they actually intended with the law.

What did they think was going to happen?

Don't you live in Washington?

Stupid. And a waste of tax dollars.

It's pretty fucking common that most employers promote from within. This is very true in sports, as well, from high school to college to the pros. Organizations do this to promote continuity and camraderie (at least when organizations are successful). UO has a high-powered offense - it makes a shitton of sense to hire the guy who is running that to keep continuity. The guy was going to get the job no matter what.

Quit wasting our tax dollars and worry about more important things! Who the f--- elected this d-bag?

I guess I'll have to take the fall here. I voted for him. More than once.

This hearing does seem pretty unnecessary, even to a commie pinko like me.

This time.... it is Barfo! So you can no longer say, "It's never Barfo."

Gee, is it any wonder we have trouble with over-spending?

"I think they gamed the system," Greenlick said. "I think they followed the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law."

Of course they gamed the system. It's stupid to begin with.
Also, why is there a law without a punishment? Not at all to say I think a college should be punished for it, but it's funny to have a rule with no consequences. So say they DIDN'T interview a minority candidate, and the hearing shows that. Then.....nothing. Just a hearing to poin tout they did, and move along. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Well, he IS a state employee, who is going to be picking up a hefty PERS return someday based on that salary. It seems like there should be some sort of hiring process...having worked for the state at one point, I know it was a hassle to get approvals to hire.

The requirement is racist and therefore would never stand up to legal appeal anyway. It also contains no definition of "qualified minority candidate".

Often in life there may actually be no "qualified minority candidate" for such a demanding job. Not all minorities choose sports for their career. Some are better suited to replace Rep. Dicklick than they are to replace Chip Kelly.

I don't give "props." I'm a fat white guy from the Mid-Valley. "Props" isn't in my vocabulary, lol...

It's dumb laws like this that caused us to have a black president.
