Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contractLarry Brown's dream job with the New York Knicks could end after only one season.Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan, who's upset over Brown's record and the coach's public criticism of his players, is considering buying out the final four years of the coach's contract, the New York Daily News reported in Sunday's editions. The buyout is worth at least $40 million, the newspaper reported. The Knicks declined to comment. One published report indicated Knicks president Isiah Thomas was in line to replace Brown as head coach, the newspaper said, but the team would not confirm nor deny it.Brown, who led the Knicks to a 23-59 season, has indicated that he will not resign. But the club could avoid having to pay another coach upward of $5 million a year if Thomas takes the job, the Daily News reported. One source told the newspaper that Thomas -- who coached the Pacers from 2000-2003 -- would be amenable to coaching the Knicks. In April, one day after the Knicks completed one of the worst seasons in franchise history, Thomas said the Hall of Fame coach would return to coach the team for a second season. The underachieving roster was another story."I am loyal to winning and I am not loyal to any singular individual," Thomas said then. "I'm going to do what I need to do to make our team better. ..."When you won 23 games, I think we'll make some changes," he said. "Coach and I haven't sat down and fully decided what changes we'll make, but we'll probably make some changes."</div>LinkDo you guys think Brown needs to part ways with the Knicks? I personally think they have a really good coach and should keep him. I think if Isiah Thomas makes some good deals and they have a good draft, Brown could have this team on the right path. I would keep him, what coach are they going to get that is better than Brown that is avialable? Rick Adelman? Paul Silas? Don Nelson? i just dont think so.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

I dont get why they would buy out his contract. You could put Phil Jackson, Larry Brown and other hall of fame coach and they still wouldnt win. You cant blame Brown for the knicks losing. If they think they are paying him to much then thats a different story.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

Brown had a rough year with the Knicks, but he is a Hall of Fame coach, and one that I think will help turn around the franchise. If he can get all of his players to buy into his system, which is unlikely but possible, the Knicks can and will make the playoffs.

I can't really figure out who's to blame for this mess of a season.Isiah Thomas has made some awful move, some good moves...Larry Brown has down a poor all around coaching job..I wouldn't mind buying out his contract if we don't improve NEXT year. Give him at least a year to get a permanent lineup. Isiah Thomas needs to be gone though. I am a supporter of him as I don't think he's AS bad as some say but I can't keep him. He traded away from favorite Knick Trevor Ariza and got Steve Francis..I give him some credit for fighting to keep Nate Robinson though, I can't believe Brown wants him gone, he's such a retard! He needs to go back to Detroit and we can get Van Gundy or something lol..

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

I'm pretty sure everybody knows how much I support Brown and the reasons I think the Knicks struggled tremendously this past season due to my rant in the other thread, but why would you buy Larry Brown out? I'm sorry, but there aren't any coaches out on the FA market that will be able to do a better job in turning this franchise around than Brown. And nygiants4life, Brown doesn't like Nate's attitude at times, and add that to his reputation for not really playing rookies and it is easy to see why he doesn't want Nate. Nate is a decent player, but he walks the thin-line between confidence and arrogance/cockiness, and for any rookie to be acting like that is absurd, let alone a rookie playing for Larry Brown.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

Why the hell would you fire Larry Brown? The person you need to get out of New York is Isiah, possibly the worst GM in the game.He gave all these average players contracts fatter then Shaqs. The Knicks need to clean there cap and start getting some young players to work with the future.I honestly think Brown might not have any good seasons but he will clear the path for them to be good in the future.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

Just heard on Sportscenter that Isiah Thomas himself might be the replacement. He did an pretty ok job back in Indiana when he coached them and i would say he's a better coach than a GM. I just wouldnt want Thomas to do this either, Thomas is an ok coach, but he isnt a Larry Brown. I dont know how you could fire a HOF coach after 1 season.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

Wow, getting rid of Brown is one thing, but replacing him with Isiah Thomas? How ridiculous is that! Seriously, Brown needs more time. Every other rebuilding job he has done it has taken him two to three years, and just because this is New York the media and the fans expect it to be done right away. Be patient...If they do indeed get rid of Brown for some reason, I doubt Isiah could do that much better with these same players.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

But as with most bad teams, we actually have talented and at least above average players. Larry Brown is not doing a good job, he's done the WORST JOB IN THE LEAGUE with a Top 10 team in talent alone.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

This franchise is such a mess it makes me laugh.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

Firing Larry Brown for a team with a bunch of scrubs is so stupid! I cannot believe that! Issiah Thomas ruined the Knicks franchise for life! Signing people for huge contracts that werent worth it...And then he continued to trade for people like Jalen Rose who contributed to the major underacheiving squad of players who make a lot more money than they should! The Knicks are ruined for ever now!

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

What! That's ridiculous. He's only been with them for 1 year. Most people were expecting them to go to the playoffs which is even more ridiculous. If you put any coach in that spot they'll do just as bad or even worst then what Larry Brown has done so far.I disagree that they have a top 10 team in talent,Marbury makes his teamates bitter, not better. They have far to many scorers on that team and just want to continue adding. The only positive thing in the team is Nate, hes at least something to look into the future and provides a extra spark.Quentin Richardson has done nothing either to help the team.If anything Larry should be getting credit for winning the little amount of games they won.Post directed at nygiants4life

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

This move would make matters worse than they all ready are, but whatever. I can't believe Larry left Detroit - now he's gonna be a bum on the corner.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

if the knicks really do part ways with brown they better get a guy who will direct this team in the right direction. i am so sick of the knicks getting picked on every year, not that they don't deserve it but it's embarrassing to be a knicks fan. no one believes in them except me. i really think brown is the only guy that can teach these players the right way to play. that 6 game streak in janurary marbury was playing the best ball of his career when he played the way brown wanted to. david lee was a starter playing great grabbing double digit rebounds and also getting some solid scoring. crawford was playing great the last month or two of the season. if the players listen they will win, it's that simple. i don't know why they would buy him out because of one bad season. he knew the team wasn't ready, he said that in training camp. next season i know they will have more wins if brown is coaching. i don't care if they miss the playoffs. i just want to see improvement and hope for the future so they can be better.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

I heard about Isaiah probably coming in as the coach. Nykfan, how do you feel about that?

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

SCREW THAT. He sucked in Indiana as a coach! He got them to the 1st round of the playoffs with Artest, Jackson, Tinsley, O'Neal...that's sad.I really want to give Brown AT LEAST ONE YEAR. He destroys the team and builds it back up stronger. He figured out what was wrong this year and if we buyout his contract we are screwed for the rest of the decade.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

I was listening to a NYC guy on FSRadio this morning talking about how Larry Brown was out of his mind this year. - He wanted/wants big roster changes (Kenyon Martin) - He said one thing one day and the opposite the next (pissed off players) - Clashed with front office and bashed players through media when told not to.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

I say let Brown stay. You won't be getting anywhere automatically in the next year, so I say wait and be patient and see how everything plays out.

He did the same exact things in Philadelphia. Also, I don't buy him endorsing bringing in Kenyon Martin. Martin doesn't fit the mold of the prototypical Larry Brown player.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

The Knicks front office is as dumb as they come. They get a good pickup getting Larry Brown and now they wanna buy out his contract in his first year,as if Isiah was a better coach then Larry.I think this will cross the line of stupidity for the Knicks if this goes down.

Re: Report: Dolan considers buying out Brown's contract

The Knicks are a total mess right now. I mean I swear I could do a better job at GM than Isiah and Larry Brown did awful, but in no way do I want him gone, yet.I say this is what we should do this off-seasonFire Isiah ThomasTrade Marbury/Francis to CHI/MIN (Or whoever will TAKE them..)Trade Channing Frye/Eddy Curry for future 1st round pick or a starting PG.Release Jalen Rose

Nykfan, how do you feel about that?</div>horrible haha. isiah can't coach in this league or run a franchise. he is good for one thing only and that is scouting talent. he's got a good eye for that but that's it. i think he should be demoted to head scout. i mean he drafted guys like t mac, damon stoudemire, channing, lee, traded for nate, and picked up a solid talent in jackie butler. he just stockpiles as a gm. as a coach i don't trust him even though he is the one who assembled this team. i don't think anyone can coach this team anywhere with the current roster. we got too many overpaid players at the same position that play with the same style. the guy i want coaching is larry brown because i know the knicks will make moves this summer and he'll get the right guys. he can turn this around. i want hope because with this roster there is no hope. they gotta build around crawford, 3 rooks, butler, qyntel and curry.NO SOUP FOR ISIAH!!!!!<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (nygiants4life @ May 15 2006, 08:42 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Trade Channing Frye/Eddy Curry for future 1st round pick or a starting PG.</div>if you're a knicks fan you want want to keep frye. he's our future man. next year he should be even better i don't want to trade him for anyone. curry is iffy. if he works out this summer and loses weight than i'd like to keep him but i'll believe it when i see it.
