Reports: Portland no longer an option, Amare to Chicago for Tyrus Thomas

If true, that's a sincerely bullshit trade a la Pau Gasol. Merry Christmas, Chicago!

A "report" from a random blog is less than compelling.

Tyrus Thomas is fool's gold. He hurt the Bulls on draft night and now might hurt the Suns at the trade deadline.

If the Suns pull the trigger on a deal where he's the centerpiece coming back, they deserve the decade in the lottery they will be headed for.

Hard to believe WHATEVER Blazers offer wasn't better than THAT garbage!

I'm not overly excited about Amare joining Portland, but I'd be upset if that's all it took to land Amare and Portland couldn't or wouldn't beat it.

They had Terry Porter firing up on Monday, and they were the first to break the Stoudemire trade talk.

The guy who does the blog has been interviewing NBA players like crazy at Allstar Weekend, and has talked to Steve Kerr and I believe Amare over the course of Allstar Weekend. (Although I doubt this information came from either of those two.)

And CBS is reporting a similar story. I provided a link.

Well Kerr is a former Bull... I'm hoping that this is all Sarver though.

Not the same, I know...

The blog on CBS is a bit more credible, though still doesn't seem any more credible than all the reports to this point. I don't see any reason to believe that this is the correct one.

As for the quote from the Bulls fan about the blog, that doesn't attest to the validity of it. He basically said "He talked to two people who would know, but this report probably doesn't come from them." Okay then.

that's a nice fools gold lineup for chicago. i'm not a big hollinger guy but looking at his anaylsis of the trade is quite interesting. i don't like amare here but if we could trade bayless and a 1st for hinrich/deng you gotta pull that trigger.

Well, on the BRIGHT side - if this trade goes down, we are a LOCK for the playoffs since Phoenix is going buh-bye!

The trade idea for Tyrus Thomas is pretty simple imo. You have Lebron and Dwight. Tyrus Thomas is the third best physical specimen in the NBA. He is starting to show that he might fullfill his potential, so his value started skyrocketing, given he's only 22 years old.

And as JA Adande said in his chat today. Phoenix was looking for smaller expirings, because the bigger expirings just meant more luxury tax dollars.

Athleticism doesn't directly translate into being a good basketball player.

You're not a homer, are you? Nah. Impossible.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. Yet another horrible trade by Phoenix. That franchise has been shooting their toes off for the last few years.

It would be ironic for Portland if Thomas was able to land Stoudemire in Phoenix, since we traded him for LA.

I'd be very surprised to see Stoudemire go to the Bulls for Thomas, but every year something like this happens. That's why you can never really laugh at any trade proposal.

In a hypothetical Tyrus Thomas/Amare Stoudemire trade, Thomas wouldn't be the best physical specimen in the deal, let alone third-best in the NBA.

Come on, Minstrel. He's quite possibly the most impartial, objective poster in this forum. I KNOW you're not implying that he's over-evaluating Bulls' talent. That's just not possible. It's not in his genetic makeup.

You're not a homer, are you? Nah. Impossible.

He is the third best physical specimen. The Bulls only took him because he was a freaky physical specimen. His athleticism and length combination is insane.

I don't think he will ever put together his basketball skills on a consistent basis to become a star player. But he is a great physical specimen.

He said Derrick Rose was a superstar before the first month of the season was over, and that it'd take two of the Blazers big 3 to trade for Rose.

He is indeed a big homer.

Thomas and Stoudemire have the same standing reach. But Amare could jump higher than a rookie Stoudemire. Now with Stoudemire's surgeries, the advantage for Thomas has to be even bigger.

Stoudemire has a strength advantage right now, that lets him do some better things offensively. But Thomas' athleticism advantage allows him to get blocks, steals, and rebounds that Stoudemire physically isn't capable of getting.

You're right. So right. No need to convince us anymore. I never knew Tyrus was the Next Coming. I'm dialing KP right now to line up a trade for him right now. I mean, he WAS ours to begin with. We should take him back.

Thank you for your objective assessment.

Oden is more of a freak than Thomas. Before his injury his predraft workout numbers were right around Dwight's.

The Bulls took him because he came off a hot year with LSU and was fresh in everyone minds after a nice performance in the Final Four. Sometimes that's all it takes to rocket up a draft board.

Calling him the 3rd best physical specimen is a joke. Hell, even a marginal rookie like JaVale McGee is a much better physical freak.
