RGV Vipers Extend OKC's Blues with 125-120 Win

Raphiael Putney posted a career-night 26 points, 18 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2-1) to a 125-120 victory over the Oklahoma City Blue (0-3) tonight at State Farm Arena.
Jaron Johnson also led the Vipers with 26 points and shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Will Cummings and Jarvis Threatt each scored 20 points. Chris Walker added 17 points and 5 blocks. Denzel Livingston tallied 12 points.

Seven Oklahoma City players reached double figures in scoring. JP Tokoto led the Blue with 22 points. Marquis Teague and Dane Miller each recorded 20 points. Talib Zanna scored 16 points. Dakari Johnson, Mustapha Farrakhan and Boubacar Moungoro each contributed 12 points.

Putney made the first shot of the game with layup, but was answered by Tokoto with a jump shot to tie the game. The score tied four times before Teague connected on a three-pointer that put the Blue up 11-8. Oklahoma City maintained control and held a 26-23 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Moungoro opened the second quarter with a shot from behind the arc, but Jaron Johnson responded with a three-point shot to send RGV on a 9-3 run to take a 33-32 lead with 9:42 on the clock. Miller followed with a layup to steal the 34-33 Blue lead. OKC held on the lead until the 0:01.1 mark when Jaron Johnson made a trey to give RGV a 58-56 advantage at halftime.

Kameron Woods opened the second half with a shot to tie the game at 58 points. Putney responded with a layup to steal the 60-58 lead. RGV held control for the remainder of the game. Putney scored 14 of his 26 total points in the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter, RGV was on top 91-80.

Teague contributed 13 of his 20 total points in the fourth quarter. Despite outscoring RGV 40-34 in the fourth quarter, it was not enough for the Blue could not close its gap. RGV won 125-120

The Vipers hit the road for the team's first road trip of the season Monday, Nov. 23 when they visit the Delaware 87ers. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. (CST). RGV returns home for back-to-back contests versus the Los Angeles D-Fenders Nov. 27 and 28 at State Farm Arena. Both home games are set for 7 p.m. (CST). Throughout the month of November, fans can bring four non-perishable food items to the State Farm Arena box office pregame in exchange for one free ticket. Donations will benefit the Salvation Army.
