Rhys Davies shot the lowest 72-hole score of the 2010 European Tour season in last year’s Trophee Hassan II. He’s back this year at a different venue but is excited to be the defender.
“It will be the first time I’ll be defending a tournament as a professional,” said the 25-year-old Welshman. “So it’s something I’m very much looking forward to.”
Davies and the field will test their skills starting Thursday over two courses the first 36-holes — the Palais Royal and L’Ocean courses. The first two rounds are played as a pro-am with the final two days with pros only on the Palais Royal course.
Rhys shot a 25-under-par total of 266 in winning the 2010 title at the Dar Es Salam Golf Club. He beat Louis Oosthuizen by two shots.
