RICK ADLEMAN FIRED

All the players had vouched over the past week to force management to renew his contract. They didn't.

He wasn't fired. Talk in ROX forums say that this was Rick's call.

I'm sure Rick's having a stiff drink right now over this news.

I thought Adleman wanted to retire this year. I doubt the Rockets really "fired" him it was probably more him not wanting to come back. The rockets would be stupid to fire a coach that has somehow made a horrible team into a team that greatly overachieved.

Time to fire Nate and hire Adelman. Right now, before game 2.

and Rick too. He used to live down the street from me, used to get wasted on the regularz.

Thats why I said he poured a stiff drink to this. I've heard stories that the Adelmans love to booze and its a shit show at their house during the holidays.

true! new years son! Rick was lighting shit on fiyuah!

Rick's a great coach! I'm sure another team will hire him if he still wants to coach.

Laura is (was?) very nice and didn't drink much...at least when we were hanging out. There, I dropped a NEP reference AND a name.

I don't know the rest of the family.

Hyperbole aside, if you actually had a choice this summer as to who would coach the team going forward, would you really pick Nate over Rick?

No, not at all. In fact, while I wasn't particularly against McMillan's extension, now I wish it hadn't happened since it obviously means Portland won't inquire after Adelman. My post was just a tongue-in-cheek post about my desire to have Adelman as Blazers coach, not a sarcastic mocking of anyone.

I don't know... if the team gets swept I would say there's a good chance Nate gets fired and they go after Rick.

I really, really doubt that the team would fire him right after giving him an extension. The extension implies that they made a decision on him and I find it hard to believe that, in light of that decision, one playoff series would reverse it (and it would be just one playoff series...any perceived playoff disappointments of the past are already factored into the extension decision).

It's all about fan support. The team was able to overachieve again, thus many fans were in favor of bringing back Nate and the team realized that they would look bad if they lost him this summer. Much of what the Blazers do is influenced by fan opinion. They're extremely conscious after the "Jail Blazer" years. I believe, however, that Nate will shoulder much of the blame if the team is swept or is embarrassed in the first round after many "experts" picked us to win. If Adelman is available, I could see Nate losing his job and Rick's triumphant return.

 Understood.

I don't "hate" Nate....but I don't understand the timing of the extension.

I think Paul Allen has too big of an ego to bring back Adelman. It would be like he would be admitting a mistake.

I'm no Nate-hater, but I am definitely a huge Adelman fan. I don't think it will ever happen, but I sure would love to see him back on our sideline somehow.

"To all of you Nate critics, can you name anyone available who'd be just as good?"

Oops, better not say that this summer...

...or any summer. It's only true during the season, not after the season when good uptempo coaches are always available.
