I saw her perform in 1971 with Ray Charles...two grand pianos and those two voices....She's on most of my compilation discs I make for the car....she's the true queen of soul...a voice for the ages. Been looking for an old recording of the soundtrack for the movie Sparkle....used to have it on vinyl....Curtis Mayfield did the music Aretha sang all the songs....got some great, great songs on it. Poor gal was still smoking cigarettes and eating junk food in an interview I saw a few years back....not the picture of health...I wish her well and hope she recovers.

I grew up listening to oldies stations because of my parents, so I heard A LOT of Aretha. Her part in Blues Brothers was one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever. That was such a great film though. Ray Charles, Aretha, James Brown..... Cab Calliway. So many great performers in that movie, and she still stood out.

She had such a balance and tone in her voice!!!! Another class act Super star fades to God! It is hard to comepare with another female singer with such a range. Perhaps Billy Holiday? Diana Washington?

I Wish she had a chance to sing with Larry Braggs (12 years as singer) and Tower of Power …………….

I wore this album out long ago...need to get another copy....one of the greatest soul albums ever! Enjoy!

Aretha sang like Mahalia Jackson probably more than anybody...young Etta James as well...Etta James "At last" is pure perfection. Betty Carter as well was an influence

There is never will ever be a comparison.

All other singers compare to her.

I've seen them probably 20 times live....performed several of their songs in my bands for decades...What is hip....Soul Vaccination...one of my favorite bands of all times....when they played with Little Feat on Waiting for Columbus it was glorious....Willie Fulton was one of my favorite funk guitarists

You have great appreciation for true musicianship!!!!!! TOP, LF, Doobies, Los Lobos, Huey Lewis & News,,,,,,,Some of my top tier favorites. TOP horns backed up HL&N in a concert tour. One concert featured some 49ers from a championship team where Will Clark sang a solo and Joe Montana was one of the background singers. They all blended smoothly with the TOP horn section. I saw TOP 3 times and loved every minute of them. Lenny Williams, Larry Braggs and the "new guy" are/were top grade singers. Absolutely Larry Braggs is my favorite. I hope Rocco Precia faired well with his cancer problem. No better bassist and no better rhythm section than Rocco and Garibaldi!!!!!!!
