I don't know the specifics but apparently Dean Smith has passed away. RIP!

This, not surprisingly, has been the biggest topic of conversation on sports radio today. I think my favorite tidbit that I've picked up today was that he was only 1 degree of separation from the inventor of the game. Dean Smith played at Kansas in the 50's for Phog Allen, who in turn had played for James Naismith about 45 years earlier.

One of the greats of the game, and from what I understand, even a better person than he was a coach. RIP Coach Smith.

Dean Smith was a liberal Democrat, the opposite of Coach K, whose name isn't worth worth trying to spell.

Interesting will disposition:

This letter was sent to each varsity letterman he ever coached.

His only ex-players who are going to spend $200 on a dinner are the ones in the NBA. For the rest, it goes into rent.
