RIP Eddie Van Halen

Dude could flat out make anelectric Guitar sing. Liked the bands early stuff pretty well. He'd been battling throat cancer for some time. Sixty Five, too young to go!

sad, real sad. E-VH ruled, rocked and redefined rock-n-roll at a time, when it needed a new direction anyhow. His custom Charvel guitars were one of a kind, with a distinct sound of his, their own.

I disagree with Guitar Worlds All Time Greatest Rock Guitarist #1- Pick, being Eddie Lodewijk Van Halen. Eddie won the Guitar Player of the Year more than any other great, including my favorite: Eric Clapton aka "God". It's fair to say: Eddie earned that ranking, year by year, blow by blow, note by note, tap by tap, redefining and even naming the Tap-ing technique.

Eddie lost 1/3rd of his tongue in the year Y2K, to tongue cancer. It was revealed in secrecy last year, that he had been battling throat cancer since 2015, and it had spread to his head and neck. RIP Eddie. Seems like yesterday the kid from Pasadena and his older brother were Sunset Blvd reg's, playing the Troubador and Whiskey A-Go-Go, et al.

From Wiki:
Eddie described supergroup Cream's "I'm So Glad" on Goodbye Cream to be "mind-blowing".[16] He once claimed that he had learned almost all of Eric Clapton's solos in the band Cream "note for note. ... I've always said Eric Clapton was my main influence," Van Halen said, "but Jimmy Page was actually more the way I am, in a reckless-abandon kind of way."[17]

An interesting musician. His tapping techniques was so astounding, guitar nuts wanted to see how he did it. In true form, Eddie turned around in the solo. They had great times even with David Lee Roth. EVH_ Rest in peace.
