I always called Mel Stottlemyre the “Silent Yankee”. He took the ball and pitched his game.
Knew pitching inside out. Never complained about any of his teammates. He was a gentleman
during turbulent times. He excelled in the true Yankee tradition. When he took the mound,
I was always confident how he’d perform. He had a great work ethic. The way he battled cancer
proved what a courageous fighter he was. May he R.I.P. I was always proud to root for this man.
