RJ a Leading Candidate to be Dealt

Why: The Nets just re-signed Vince Carter, they seem to have decided on not dealing Jason Kidd, and they sorely need a post scorer ... so R.J. is the best trade bait. Where: He's not going anywhere unless it is for a quality interior player such as the aforementioned trio. So that puts Indiana, Memphis and Minnesota at the top of president Rod Thorn's list. There was talk of Jefferson to Portland for Zach Randolph before the latter went to New York, but it never materialized.

When: Talk with Indiana was intense leading into the draft, but everything seems to have quieted down leading into the new salary cap. That doesn't mean it won't happen. The Nets are one trade away from being very serious contenders to win the East and Thorn is not one to sit on his hands.

I love Richard Jefferson has much as the next guy, but I would love to see him get traded for a good post big man like a KG, Jermaine, or maybe even someone else. I guess now that Magloire is a free agent all of those other talks have stopped. I would rather have Magloire and keep Jefferson then get an aging Kevin Garnett or even a Jermaine O'Neal or Pau Gasol. He may have only averaged 6 points and 6 rebounds this year coming off the bench, but I think he could double both numbers coming into New Jersey. Especially playing with play makers like Kidd and Carter. That would really open up his whole game. Plus he has been an all star before in his career playing along side a playmaker by the name of Baron Davis. What will make you think that he can't do better playing with Kidd and Carter? I think we should keep Jefferson for now and try to get Jamaal Magloire instead.

It's false hope, that's all it is. Magloire isn't going to put us over the edge, no matter how good he may look right now. He's likely to give us a strong effort, but we're not reaching the finals with him. It's either we can get a true legitimate big man, or it's another second round loss.

Well he has proven that he could do well with great play makers, and we have one of the best and another great one. I think he will have a terrific season. He could play PF while Krstic plays center. I could see them as a good front court duo with Nenad stretching the defense and Magloire posting up. Who knows, he might be the 'K-Mart' we are looking for.

We're still not going anywhere, like I said it's all false hope. I always look for the positives in an upcoming season, but thinking that Jamaal will actually push us to a new level is just nonsense. I remember how excited we were when we had Marc Jackson on the squad with Linton Johnson backing him up.

I'm not comparing them as players, but it's really the same case here. Magloire is no O'Neal, Gasol, Garnett or Martin, and we're looking at another season where we will come up short.

First of all. Garnett/O'neil/Gasol or Magloire? Are you kidding? It's just like the "Bynum for Kidd" situation. How should I put this?... No brainer. I'd give both Carter and Jefferson for Garnett. Magloire over Garnett? Give me a damn break. While your at it, why not trade Kidd for a Gibson or someone who's not giving out numbers but with "potential" and just wait and see

Just like you can't win without a front line, you can't win without a good back court either.

^^With that lineup Garnett could easily score 25 ppg. Especially with Kidd passing to him. I'm sure you could get a mccants or RD in the trade as well.

If the Nets cant get somethin good in that trade along with O'neal. I say forget it and Keep Richard Jefferson and sign Jamaal Magloire.

Anyone on the Nets besides Carter makes them a Championship team.

I think you guys should go after Smush Parker this offseason.

I'd take my chances with a Garnett/Kidd lineup anytime. With Garnett in the paint, all the Nets would really need are a couple of spot up shooters, which Nachbar and House can easily fill. The Nets have been in need for an inside presence for the longest time. The Nets didn't have a great one on one player when they went to the NBA Finals 2 straight years. They had a young Jefferson, a not so reliable Kittles an inconsistent Vanhorn, Martin, who isn't really a post player and a so-so bench. I'd rather have a Garnett in the post, Kidd running the team and good role players.
