Roberto Alomar HIV Lawsuit

Bizarre case. Heard about it on the MSP. If this is just extortion, I feel very bad for Roberto Alomar.

Couple of things (I agree this is bizarre)

1) She must run her spa well (or married up) to live in a "lavish" place getting driven around in an Escalade.
2) She had unprotected sex with him for 3 years while he's supposedly deteriorating in front of her eyes, yet she's still negative? I confess I'm not current on my HIV education, but is that incredibly lucky or par for the course?
3) If he got the virus from being raped when he was 17 by the two Mexican guys, he played a HoF-worthy career with HIV (turning, allegedly, into full-blown AIDS in the last few years of his career)?
4) $15M seems like a lot of money in this. If she was his wife, would she even get that much in a divorce case?

I'm sorry, but unless she is claiming Alomar raped her, and as far as I can see from the article she is not, how did he "insist" on unprotected sex? She could have ended the relationship, said either condoms or forget it. I mean, women do end relationships all the time. Did he threaten violence if she left him? The article does not say that either.

Apparently the Escalade and other perks were worth risking her life?

Something is just not adding up.

Crandc -- Just speculating here, but based upon the response by Alomar's legal team, I think he probably is HIV positive and she is trying to air his dirty laundry in an attempt to extort money from him. I highly doubt that he contracted HIV at the age of 17 and spent several years in the league without that becoming an issue. Also -- I don't know how many encounters they had, but that seems like a very long relationship to not have contracted the disease if he "insisted" on unprotected sex. Also -- what are her damages if she didn't contract the disease? Even if everything she says is true and Alomar knew he was HIV positive, while it is a pretty crappy thing to do, how was she injured?

In fact, it is possible for a person to have HIV for many years before showing symptoms, so it is possible Alomar contracted HIV at 17. But you know, being a lesbian sports fan, I have to wonder - I don't claim to know, but could he be inventing a story of a rape, by Mexicans no less, as a cover up?

Good point about if she is HIV negative, what are the damages. Frankly I can't see any. If you take a chance and get lucky, you are not harmed. At worse she can say she suffered stress not knowing if she is HIV + or not, or that she does not know if she will be in future. Pretty weak.
