Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

The Ultimate Musical Debate. Which powerhouse genre wins?I'm with Rock 100%. It's older, it has more variety, and it's just great all around. Whereas rap is more:"I need a dime, top of the line.............." Maybe it's just they speak faster than I can hear, but some is just annoying "booty booty booty booty booty.......", while some is just too sucky.Kanye West and Public Enemy is all the rap I listen too. While the rock list can go on and on.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

I hate how it seems like you have to like one or the other. I listen to a lot of both rap and rock and i liek them both the same.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

I don't really see how this can be debated, it's all about opinions. Don't say what most rappers talk about either because theres plenty of bad that can be said about rock. Good choice with Public Enemy btw, Chuck D is a rap legend.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

Oh boy, this is going to start some controversy. I'm 75% Rap and 25% Rock. It's hard defending Rap in these types of debates because everyone knows the genre of music basically encourages sex, drugs, and violence. So you cant really say anything positive about it, the only way you can defend Rap is just bring up the dumb things about Rock.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

How does rock encourage sex, drugs and violence? Care to share an example? Where as rap is talking about getting head, fuk the police, smoking weed and talking about p*ssy? If you havent noticed a lot of rock songs have great lyrics, something rap lacks in.

Underground and oldschool rap is a competely different story.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

Wtf street I said Rap encouages those things...read my post again.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

Oldschool and underground really has lyrics that would make you think and be interested in. Stories from the hood that could be applied anywhere, politics, anything of the sort. Topped with a catchy beat you got a really good song. The same can be said about rock the good stuff is actually good and you would like the lyrics.Personally I like rap and don't listen to much rock because of the people associated with rock: drug addicts, trailer trash, surfers, surfer preps. They just bug me. But whatever it's all personal choice.

Misogyny, violence, drugs, and homophobia are often themes in that genre, as previously mentioned. But there's a lot of terribly trite and meaningless rock songs out there, so you can't really lump anything together. There's plenty of meaningful songs in both genres, and I like them both.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

dont compare this....each genre has its own style, debating this will only cause contraversey<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Fabolous @ Jun 27 2006, 08:06 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Rap owns rock <span style="font-size:36pt;line-height:100%">MIKE JONES IS NOT RAP!!!!!!! AND NEITHER IS LIL JOHN THEY ARE FAGYS</span></div>lmao seriously they are not but you got to admit that WHO?..MIKE JONES is catchy whenever i hear some1 yell WHO i yell mike jones like a reflex...its kinda scary as far as lil jon..hell no! his music is only good for dancing at clubs and thats only because of the beat, lil jon is a horrible rapper and did you know that lil jon grew up in a 3 story house :no3: true story, anway u want to listen to REAL rap? listen to some tupac, rakim,Big L,Public Enemy,NWA,Notorious BIG(his later albums such as "ready to die"),etc not that lil jon or mobb deep crap

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

It's like this:Whatever one grows up with, is what they will come to like. Whatever the "trend" is, is what one is going to like. There is no argument that even the simplest of rock is more complex than rap, it's simply a fact. There is more going on, more people involved (atleast in a live setting) and there are more contributions made to a song by the overall members of a band (unless we are talking about Ashlee Simpson and Britney Spears), however, when one just wants to sit down and hear some music, it comes down to what you like. When I hear a fast guitar solo, I say: "Wow! That was great"When a rap fan hears a guitar solo, they say: "This dude is showing off and making noise. It ain't music"When I hear rap, I say: "This is about as entertaining as Barnie"When a rap fan hears rap, they say: "Yea! These beats are wack dawg!"No one in efected the same way by anything. Rap fans like rap, and rock fans like rock. I hate rap with a passion, but if I listened to it on a continuous basis, I'd start liking it. Same goes for rap fans about rock.In the end, forget everything. It comes down to this: Does what you're hearing appeal to you?If it does, no one can argue

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

I like rap a lot more. But I like some rock. Mostly rap though.

They aren't even mainstream, don't see why anyone would throw them in the same category as Lil Jon and Mike Jones.

LMAO KMart! So un-cool.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

Rock N Roll is kind of outdated, most of it today sucks. Rap is modern and more popular now.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

Rap all the way, for me, but not the garbage mainstream crap that most people like to stereotype.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

As you can probably guess, I'm white. I had no idea what "wack" meant. Oh well, I tried to be cool.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

I like rap and rock, I dont really care as long as the rock isnt metal that gives u a headache

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

I don't like crazy heavy metal, but the occasional Metallica, Priest, or Maiden listen doesn't hurt!

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

I like the new rock. Not so much the death screamo or hawthorne heights, but the new rap is worse than ever though. "Gotta stay fly ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah Till I die ah ah.........Once again, most rappers speak faster than they can hear. People talk about how rappers had it tough when they were raised. No money to go around, but some rockers went through the same stuff.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

Rock, but I do like rap a bit. Just the old school though.Today, rap is just taking ho's and a car in a club. There is not any depth anymore to it. All I hear is about money and girls... gets stupid after a while. The music videos are a mirror reflection. There are of course exceptions, but that is the norm.Rock on the other hand deals with an infinite spectrum of variety (sounded smart huh?)... it has more history behind it and the music videos are actually different than the other.

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

I think old school rock and new school rap are tied. Most of the new rock sucks.

.. might as well listen to tony yayo while you are at it

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

I don't think anyone will argue that lyrics today are horrible. All rockers talk about are love, relationships, etc.All rappers talk about are hoes, drugs, cars, pimps, etc.Again, I am speaking about mainstream bands

Re: Rock'N'Roll vs. Rap

There is much more than Love and Relationships in Rock.. but I guess mainstream, I have to agree a little bit.I agree the new rock is starting to suck, with all the emo bands coming out, it just sickens me.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Camby_Land @ Jun 28 2006, 02:58 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Rock N Roll is kind of outdated, most of it today sucks.
