Austin Romine was DFA'd, Murphy will be the back up catcher.

Romine was out of option, but it seems another hyped catching prospect has not panned out. It will be interesting to see if he gets any offers.

Wish him luck with his career.

Glad they went with Murphy, I think it was the right move.

His defense is the big issue (imo, lol) - if he holds his own behind the plate, the Yanks could very well have a good young catcher.

Romine was just another overhyped dud. Morons kept drafting catchers.

...the Yanx should have traded some of their young catching prospects while they still had value, especially after acquiring McCann.

...but now that Romine is out of options and the Yanx will probably lose him to another team, and will have nothing in return to show for it. The bad decisions made by management seems to be never-ending.

Sanchez is still only 21 and was at Trenton last year...Obrien is in the DBacks organization.

Big year in AAA coming up for Sanchez.

Exactly. I see this same issue with a lot of young wine collectors. They buy something that is expensive or rare and sit on it waiting for it to peak as well as save it for that special occasion. By the time its opened its Skunking its way to vinegar.

This mgmt team buys when they should promote from within, and holds when they should sell/trade. If there is any consistency, its in the bad decision making department.

They did trade one of their catchers - O'Brien last year in the Prado deal which eventually translated into the Prado/Phelps for Eovaldi/Jones/German deal.

O'Brien is a young catcher with power who still needs development behind the plate but is generally regarded (at this point) as a young hitter with power who could eventually be moved to 1b or corner O.F. (?).

So it looks like O'Brien - one of their young catchers- became Eovaldi/Jones/German.
I hope the Yanks can survive without Prado and in the meantime I'll wait and see at least for 2015 to play out before I take out the axe.

...^^^ Ummm, I'm well aware of the trade, Prado was a salary dump and OBrien was a throw in along with cash. If you'll look, you'll see that I already mentioned that OBrien was no longer with the Yanx in my previous post. Obrien was not one of the "young catching prospects" that I was referring to. I was talking about catchers who are actually still with the team, as in Sanchez and Romine and Murphy.

Well right because we obviously don't need to develop young hitters with power to play 1B or RF in the near future....

Point being that Romine may have had more value previously had he not been used the way he was. Now in hindsight we got the better deal out of the Montero/Pineda trade, but its taken longer to develop, while Jesus did not "rise" to the occasion.

Maybe, hopefully, Bird 1b , Jagielo 3b, Heathcott (O.F.) and Judge Rf will come along?
They seem to be "pretty good" hitting prospects who haven't been traded yet.

Let's see how fast they go to Bird when Tex continues his steady and sure decline into major league suckitude. Until then or similar actions, this mgmt team is incapable of making difficult decisions. Paralysis by analysis is a well studied business flaw. Look I'm a huge Yankee homer and it pains me to admit that our mgmt org sucks as bad as it does.

This off season presented opportunities that were consistently panned for low risk/low return options. This franchise could have made some bold statements, such as writing off ARod, but rather chose to sully their brand over money. And I'll bet anyone that the franchise loses more than $61M over the next 3 years.

Getting back on track, why was Romine even on the roster at the time of ST camp? They knew he was out of options....were they hoping he beat out Murphy? He should have been moved a long time ago.

And unless Jagielo can play another position or Headley goes down, he's not coming up until September 1st. Same with Judge / Beltran.

Keys words- "young" and "future".

With the unfortunate exception of a top flight eye catching ace SP, the Yankees have a fair and decent amount of good young position players who are (currently) on schedule to be ready in 1-2-3 years.

Never know how some things turn out....for example - who's to say within a 2-3 years Jagielo really progresses and we see Headley MAYBE (don't get excited) move to first base?
Heathcott (24yrs old) was a first rounder (O.F.) he had a great ST and could be back on track - he's someone else to watch.

These are only a couple of - imo- legitimate possibilities, amoung others.
Never know how things can evolve in a year or two...or three. ?

Let's hope the Yankees DON'T get bitten by the injury bug because if this team stays healthy......never mind. Lol

Just my opinion.
