I would love to dump a contract for Rondo. He'd be gone after next year, seems like a low risk, high reward deal.
We would be getting rid of a long term contract, helping our long term success. No thanks. We need to look more long term rather than finding a short term rental.
Rondo can assist you with that...he's good at assistsThat doesn't move my needle.
Rondo should be beasting with that Bulls roster, he should have put the Kings in the playoffs....how he'd improve us doesn't compute

Even if we could save ourselves from 3 years of Turner, after Rondo, is most likely gone?Pass. There are plenty of ways to move a contract. This isn't one that would add squat to the Blazers' long term success.
He signed a 2 year contract, without a team or player option. How could they just release him?Why would the Bulls dump an expiring contract for a longer contract?
They could simply release him and not have to pay him longer than this year.
They'll have cap-space next year, why jeopardize it?
Bringing Rondo here would be a mistake.
You're right, but they could dump him and a lottery protected 1st to some place like Brooklyn. That $13M in savings while giving up a draft pick is a lot better option than taking on Turners or Leonards contract. (Although, they could use Leonard as a backup C who could shoot). I'd trade Leonard for Rondo only if we get a first round pick back and release Rondo or re-trade him immediately. He signed a 2 year contract, without a team or player option. This is about dumping a contract, not getting Rondo.Rondo's not even a good player anymore. I'd love to have the Rondo of 7 years ago, spacing be damned. The Rondo of today can no longer play defense and still can't shoot. He no longer has an otherworldly Assist Rate. He's an ex-star who's aged particularly poorly.
He's basically a "no reward" player at this stage of his career.
True, they might not even be willing to do it. But they won't even play him right now, and anything would be an upgrade over MCW.You're right, but they could dump him and a lottery protected 1st to some place like Brooklyn. What?In what sense is that an improvement? Even if you clear salary at the end of Rondo's contract, you still have no cap space to use. Turner and Leonard may not float your boat, but they're still serviceable NBA players. That's better than a hole in the roster that you can only fill with a minimum contract guy.
What?
What's the salary cap next year? The Blazers are so far over the salary cap that cutting Leonard's or Turner's contract doesn't get them under the cap. They'd be down a player once Rondo is gone and wouldn't have any cap space to sign a replacement.
What's the salary cap next year?
Isn't the luxury tax threshold like 122 million though? With Ezeli and Turner gone, we'd be pretty far below that.Something like $102 million.
