Ya gotta love it . . .

Artest, in his 10th season, said Roy was the first player to score more than 40 points on him. He made 15 of 27 shots, many of them layups, and went 10-for-12 from the free-throw line.

It seems the whole Rocket team is trying to figure out how to stop Roy:

The Rockets had a 90-minute film session followed by a two-hour practice on Thursday, undoubtedly working on better ways to control Roy, the NBA's 10th leading scorer.

Really, I highly doubt that...Good for Roy but.....hmmm time to do some pointless research

I have to assume that Artest knows what he's talking about. As a defensive specialist, he takes pride in these kinds of statistics. He probably remembers when a guy goes off on him, like Roy did.

What did Kobe finish with whenever they were talking trash this year I wonder?

Maybe he was referring to a game that didn't go to OT?

We are talking about different games....The over 40 was an overtime game (Kobe had 48min), the Kobe 18pts in 4 min was earlier this year and didnt go to OT

I know he had 18 in the final 4 mins when the trash talkin started :ghoti:

haha yeah that he did.. that was some entertaining trash talk too lol.

No we weren't. I just quoted the wrong post. I meant to quote ah ha liar but I clicked the one below it. Sorry for the mix up.

Battier was guarding Roy a good amount last game, so not all of his pts were on Artest either.

heres the question i have about roy in this series....

will he emerge as Wade did years ago as the guy who can carry his team through a series? will roy be the player
that gets the blazers to the next round? or is he a guy who can only do so much? so far... its 50/50 with game 1 saying he needs help but game 2 says he can be the wade type player.

game 3 tonight.... cue NBC music

Sure, if he gets to the line 25+ times a game too :devilwink:

That finals made me hate Wade through no fault of his own

Well if we're talking about Battier, I know Kobe has put up three 50 point games against him, 6 40 point games. One of the 40 was inefficient, but another was 56 in three quarters then he sat out the game.

Bingo....there is no game where its one on one the ENTIRE game

I agree Battier was on Roy from time to time. Its just suprising that Artest gave Roy credit for being the only guy to do it against him. He's one crazy dude.

Wade was unbelievable that series, but I agree they treated Wade like he was MJ (maybe even giving him more calls then MJ would've gotten). Once he knew how they would officiate him, Wade drove the lane with reckless abandon and got EVERY call. There were times that no one even touched him and he would yell and get the call. That series, was one in which you really had to question if the NBA fixes games to ensure that the premiere players win. Its better from a marketing stand point if they do.

Maybe Kobe was not his primary responsibility on defense on this game? Who knows?

Does not matter - Artest clearly has high regard for Brandon - I think he said after the crazy first game of the season that he (Roy) matured a lot and he (Artest) was proud of him.

I know he is the "enemy" in this series - but I have a lot of respect for the way Artest is behaving so far - he has not been dirty, he is clearly working hard and he seems to relish the challenge. A very good player and seems to have really grown as a person as well. Props to him.

I tell you what, I'd LOVE to have this more mellow Artest on our team. He is a vet and could really help our team become great defensively. And just think how someone like Artest could mentor Batum into becoming a pure lock down defender. What a defensive duo those 2 would be.

Well here's a good article on him when he was in Portland.

He seems to be cleaning up his act.

Artest Goes Clubbing In Portland
Ron Artest | RocketsRon Artest went clubbing. He found a place packed with young people, showed up with the place hopping and was immediately the center of attention.

Artest does this often on Rockets road trips, and he found just the right spot in Portland, arriving at the Regence Boys and Girls Club in time to talk to the after-school crowd of about 125 cheering his every comment.

"It's like going out to a club to me," Artest said. "This is my club time. I'm going to be on my feet anyway. I can go make an impact. Then I go back to my hotel. It's still early. And I get a chance to rest. You try to find a way to make time, and if you can make time, you do it.

"I try to make a difference, reach out a little more. It's something I've always done. Yesterday I was a little more tired. Today, I had a chance to recover. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on my feet. I can spend a little time with the kids, see what they're doing. It's always good to spend time with the kids." -- Houston Chronicle

He can probably be had for around MLE price this offseason. He had a difficult time meshing with McGrady and a role off the bench. I don't know, maybe he'd mesh better with Roy.

Well, apparently Artest felt he was guarding Roy the entire game. Otherwise, he wouldn't have assigned himself the blame for Roy's 42 points.

We do not need Artest. We need a veteran point guard. Artest would be too reminiscent of Ruben Patterson for my taste.

Roy gets love from the fans after his 42-point explosion against Artest . . .
