Roy is our PG of the future

Before everyone goes off on me consider a couple of things.

1st -no matter who comes in Roy will likely be running the offense at the end of games.

2nd- I would argue overall he's the best PG we have on our roster. He can shoot, drive, defend and run the offense better than any other PG on the team.

3rd- Moving Roy to PG allows Rudy to get 35-38 minutes a game. Rudy is also able to play some PG.

4th- Fans may want the fast pace offense (Which we would get when Rudy brings the ball up) but making every possesion count is what wins in playoff basketball and ultimately thats what it's all about. Also when Oden comes back we'd be foolish not to take advantage of playing off of Oden in a half court offense. His presence is going to make a huge difference for our offense. If teams double they have to double off of Rudy, Roy, Webster, or LMA pick your poison.

Also everyone is complaining obout our offense but our scoring is up this year and we are in every game but one.

I think the only problem with Roy at the point is his defense on other PG's. It takes a lot out of someone to chase Chris Paul and even Sebastian Telfair around the floor. Roy is a player we need to score the ball, and if he is tired from chasing quicker guards around that would suffer. Another concern woul dbe ball handling under pressure. Roy can easily bring the ball up the court while defended, but I'm not sure he has the skill set to dribble out of pressure.

Roy is best served with players like Bayless and Rudy who can both play off the ball on offense, but both are quicker than Roy is with the ball. Nate needs to use Roy like Pippen was used. More of a point forward type. Not as the primary ball handler bringing the ball up

if you want to argue that his development won't fit our timetable that's one thing, but obviously it's YEARS too early to know anything about what bayless isn't capable of as a PG.

I am guessing that in time we will see a lot of Roy/Bayless together - with Jerryd guarding the opposing PG and them sharing ball-handling duties. Add Rudy off the bench and we have a 3 guard rotation of 32 minutes each with whoever is left of Blake/Sergio to get mop-up minutes...

Your hyperbolic answer is to be expected, but I do agree that the point is not the place for Roy to play for long stretches of the game, but to call him a below average option is simply bogus, it's just not an ideal position for him to play.

Roy is one of our PGs of the future. For reasons listed by MM, it's very necessary to have another quicker, smaller, and defensive-minded PG as well. Bayless would fit that role. Kyle Lowry is another player I'd be interested in as well.

Roy is not a PG. Not only does he force things, but he does not see the court the same way a PG does -- he is a scorer. The Houston game made it clear to me. Time and again Roy would take on Artest, instead of dishing to an open Rudy for the uncontested jumper. While we ended up winning the game, Roy's play when he played point guard was highly suspect.

How many rings do Stockton, Kidd, Payton, & Nash have. Hall of Fame point guards. No rings.

I went to look at this year's PER numbers and noticed that Indy plays JJ as a PG this year ( he did not last year here, he was our backup SG).

Funny thing, JJ's PER is still better than Sergio's - even with Sergio's wonderful a/to ratio and him playing much better this year than last year (when his PER was atrocious - to the tune of being WNBA worthy...) - and PER does not measure defense - an area JJ was always better than Sergio...

The sad thing is that Blake's PER is even slightly worse than Sergio's. Ugh.

We need to give Bayless some burn or trade for a PG - it really is our glaring problem spot.
