You know, most highlight reels make the player look like Superman. This reel does that, with the added effect of making everyone guarding him look like YMCA league rejects. There's a couple of moves where Roy looks like he's just moseying along, and everyone else is stuck in molasses. It's uncanny how slow he makes everyone else look without looking like a speed demon himself.

Can't. Wait.

How many days until the season starts again?

Yeah, one of my favorite moments like that is at 0:36. Brandon just kind of mosey/hesitates (mositates?) his way to the paint and suddenly his shot's up and the defense looks like it's been bamboozled. Great stuff.

That's exactly the clip I was thinking of too. Then you see shots of him getting a lob, and his head's near the rim and you think "How the hell can he jump so high? He's not athletic!" And of course that's the trick, isn't it? Anyone can finish with a dunk, but he makes Rod Strickland-esque circus shots seem almost mundane. Kind of like the saying "The greatest trick the devil ever played was making people think he didn't exist". He's hugely athletic, but so spare in his usage of it that people forget he can jump over you, outrun you, make you look old and slow and silly.

Also, love the trash talking he was doing against Pierce in the Boston clip (when he hits the midrange jumper).

only thing I saw on the article the guy wrote, was it was wrong, where he said the Blazers lost to the Yao and Tmac'less Rockets.

What Brandon Roy does better than almost anyone else in the league is change speeds. It's like his transmission can go from 1st to 5th with no loss in power.

And I love the way he paces himself. He has decent athleticism, but he never feels as if he needs to show it. If he lost it, he'd still be a terrific player. It's also going to extend his career.

The thing about him I notice is that he doesn't just take it at the opposing player like Bron or DWade. He is like Joe Johnson, where he waits for the defender to react, then attacks! He keeps his man on his heels! And another thing, this kid can jump!

So basically, Brandon Roy is the Keyser Söze of the NBA?

Love that crossover move on Duncan around the 3:30 mark. He's got one of the greatest interior defenders of all time on his hip and he gets a layup purely on dribbling skill.

I was surprised they found so many lobs to highlight. They must have found every single one they threw at him last year, because he didn't seem to get many. Can't wait to see Andre Miller throw one of those to him every game.

If he stays healthy, he'll be remembered as the greatest Blazer of all time. (Unless, of course, Greg Oden surpasses him, which is certainly possible.) The stats might be close to Drexler's, but Roy will have the edge in wins and most likely championships.

Yeah, but if it wasn't for Jordan and Magic, Drexler would likely have two more rings.

Will Roy be blocked by a future Top 10 of all-time player?

Kobe or Lebron?

Something tells me this debate will be revisited quite often. Much like Carmello vs LeBron or Duncan vs Garnett or Hakeem vs Robinson or Dr J vs Jordan.

Then, just like these other cases, one day we'll all wake up and the debate will seem silly because the answer is so obvious.

Kobe or Lebron?

Wow, wouldn't that be weird if LeBron blocked Roy from winning multiple championships?

That's the sort of almost-but-not-quite-there heartache you come to expect as a Blazer fan.

Check out my boy's hops!

Yes. :devilwink:

Maybe his nickname should be "The Prestige" -- the point in the magician's trick where he does the impossible.

According to urbandictionary.com, keyser soze and houdini are synonyms. You may have something there...

And this one......

let him enjoy his spotlight in New York, Lebron does not have the same drive or will that MJ did. I wouldnt worry about him blocking us.

What a beautiful highlight reel. I feel lucky every day to have Roy on the Trail Blazers.

Can't wait for the season to start!!

Great video. I also liked the clip around 2:20 where Roy is trash talking to Paul Pierce.

Yup, the athleticism thing was a real sleeper and a reason I drastically underrated Roy when he was drafted. I thought he was a very skilled player without the big athleticism to give him big-time upside, because that's how he played in college. Then this year there was an article about how Roy was a high-flyer in high school, dunking constantly. But he was cautioned not to rely on his athleticism, so he schooled himself to play a more skill-based game during his college years and didn't attempt to play above the rim.

Now, he's got all that skill AND he's blending in his huge athleticism. No wonder he's become a top-ten player. He's so deceptively athletic. Most players, when you watch their highlights, it's impressive but obvious how they did it...they just went over, around or through the defense with one or two big athletic moves. Roy doesn't do it like that most of the time. His drives are like magic tricks, as he slides into a defensive mess and somehow slides out on the other side to flip the ball into the hoop. Like someone "sliding through" a wall rather than leaping over it or smashing through it.

He's a very unique player.

I wholeheartedly approve of this new verb. Seriously, I'm going to start using it. Bravo!

Watching Roy pull off some of his moves reminds me of fooling my 2 year old into thinking the cracker under my palm just vanished.
