So, supposedly Rudy's agent told Kahn that he wouldn't play in Minnesota. I can see Rubio doing the same. He's still got work to do in Barcelona after their shock defeat in the ACB playoffs. Also supposedly Kahn is really hot for Batum.

Would you trade Batum as part of a package for Rubio's rights? I think I would. Rubio's still a teenager (I think) but, their upset against Caja Laboral notwithstanding, Rubio's first season as the starting PG for Barcelona was amazing. He proved he can work with a different style from DKV Juventut's run'n'gun style, and he acquired a three point shot. I really think he's the closest thing to a young Jason Kidd we've seen in a while. Yes, he's not amazingly athletic and not the best at finishing at the rim, but the same was true of Kidd (Kidd was fast but his hops were never great). And Rubio's vision is all-world.

The Miami thing has everyone thinking bigger. I really don't think we have a shot at Paul or Williams. And besides, they've already established themselves for other teams. I think Rubio is gettable.

Batum for Rubio? FUCK NO!

+1, but not emphatic enough

Rasta, you're on a roll this week! Rubio will NEVER come here. Neither Sergio nor Rudy have good things to say about us.

Chris Paul coming here is about a trillion times more likely! James' group which now represents Paul is trying to get him out of NOH.

Fuckin A and well said. No more Spainiard Prima Donna's!! Batum for CP3 sure, he's the only reasonable (yes rasta reasonable) to acquire star PG I would trade Batum for.

If CP3 can't join him (LBJ) he should beat him and that means LA (nothing to trade and why upset a potential 3-peat) or Portland.

No. Fucking. Way.

Rubio hasn't proven he can even compete in the league while Batum has shown signs he can be a very good NBA player.

Further, Rubio can't shoot for shit. He can't even finish at the rim.

He may end up being really good, but he isn't the can't miss prospect some folks believe him to be.

No, I wouldn't trade Batum for Rubio. I don't even want him and wouldn't trade Bayless for him.

Wow. A lot of Spaniard hate going on. 'Cause, after all, those Gasol brothers really suck, don't they?

Why would we want ANOTHER young, inexperienced guard that is not proven and apparently does have all the tools for one of our best prospects that is already producing NBA quality stats? Plus, comparing Rubio to the Gasol's is just dumb. Pau took some time to develop, and the Blazers roster as it is doesn't have time to wait for a teenage kid to develop at one of the most important positions on the court. Its just a dumb idea all around, not just because he is a Spaniard...

Lol.... Batum is the 2nd best player on this team

and quickly rising to number 1

and the Blazers are gonna trade him for another spanish whining bitch??

Ricky Rubio isn't even Rudy Fernandez and we've seen how that's turned out.

I think the real issue with Spanish players is cultural. They're simply not mentally tough enough. Before he had K*be, Gasol used to fold like a tent under pressure or when things weren't going his way.

Edit: For those not familiar with Spanish culture, I probably need to explain my point. From birth, Spanish boys are coddled, spoiled and looked after by their mothers. They're not expected to cook, clean, do chores or any kind of housework. Their sisters are expected to look after them. They're raised to believe the sun rises and sets with them. This kind of upbringing leads to a certain expectation of treatment. Spaniards don't respond well to tough love.

Ditto

Gah. Rasta your obsession with Rubio is getting unhealthy ... you're almost in Shamlessblazer and Iggy territory here.

"Will he or will he not" ever come to the NBA is not worth the head-ache. And definitely not worth Batum

What does not being able to score have to do with Rubio being from Spain?

Lot's of other point guards from all around the world can pass but can't score and they all suck too.

Do you really think so???

I'd currently place him as our 5th or 6th best player with the potential to be 3rd or 4th best.

This thread is a classic case of "what have you done for me lately?"

There is a REASON that Rubio was picked so high and Batum was a low first rounder... it's because Rubio is a far, far better prospect and he plays a position of scarcity.

I like Batum, but the amount of hype he gets from Blazers fans is getting a bit out of control. If we can get any kind of assurance that Rubio would play for Portland and we could get him for Batum, you take that deal and run with it. Plug in Richard Jefferson or another small forward (which is one of the easiest positions to fill in the NBA) and we'll be much better off in the long run.

Ricky Rubio isn't even Rudy Fernandez and we've seen how that's turned out.

Nobody has ever said that Rubio will only be as good as Rudy. Rudy is an undersized 2G who can't penetrate. Rubio is an oversized PG with possibly the best passing skills IN THE WORLD and who won defensive player of the year in his league.

I remember watching the Spaniards in the "Rudy dunked on Dwight" Olympics and posting how, in most games, I was disappointed with Rudy because he didn't have nearly the effect on the game as this young kid was having.

It amazes me that people are gushing like a BP oilwell over Darren Collison, who is a solid backup PG, and dismiss Rubio. Fine. I'll shut up about him. But he'll be an all-star in five years, if he comes over, MARK MY WORDS!!! (All caps, to show spittle-spraying intensity.)

Or maybe Batum was at one time projected as a lottery talent, but due to a misleading health report he tumbled down the draft board?

No way you take Rubio over Batum. Batum fell in the draft for a couple reason. He was reported to have some health problems which we found out later was false. He also had a problem on his Euro team the year before but can't remember what it was. We were offered a #4 pick in this years draft for Batum from the same team that drafted Rubio #5. There is very few if any GM's in the NBA that would take Rubio over Batum right now even with Rubio playing a position of scarcity. I also think there is even a chance Rubio won't come over to the NBA. Rubio is a good pass first PG that can't shoot or go to the basket that well.

I'd be interested in acquiring Rubio, if he's willing to come to the US and play for the Blazers. I'd consider dealing Batum, but it's not a clear slam dunk to me. I agree with Ed that Rubio the prospect trumped Batum the prospect. But Batum is no longer merely a prospect...he's had quite a bit of NBA success at a young age. Rubio carries more risk (and more possible reward). It would be a tough decision.

I love Batum. I loved Batum before we drafted him. I was saying we should draft him with the pick that we traded up for Bayless. It would pain me to give up Batum for Chris Paul, even. But Rubio is better than Batum RIGHT NOW. Just because he looks like he belongs in a Boy Band doesn't mean he's not a world class talent. (Look at Christiano Ronaldo.) Watch the highlights. Remember, this is a league that produced both Gasols and Luis Scola. These are not college kids he's doing this against.

Oops. NOW I'll shut up.

There is a chance in 5 years Rubio could develop enough to be a all star but I highly doubt it. I watched every Spain game in the Olympics and there was a lot of praise for Rubio but I never saw anything from him but did see many signs of Rudy being the better player.
