Running list of prospects meeting/working out with Portland

Also found it interesting Portland was not listed among the list of teams at Sochan's proday.

I tend to think he has a promise from someone…..maybe it’s Portland.
I think the guy with a promise is Sharpe, and not necessarily from Portland. After his initial day at the combine and his proday, he all but vanished and there was talk about him having "other committments" all of a sudden.

Reminds me of how Utah promised Mitchell and essentially forbade him from working out with other teams.

But it's still super early. Promising at the combine with a month to go before the draft seems premature. I know the scouting is done with all these guys but they still need to do psych evals and interviews in the home city, etc. I like a thorough process.

If what had been said about Cronin liking high upside, then Keegan Murray probably isn't high on his list. Of course he could think that Murray has higher upside than all the experts. Or what has been said about Cronin preferring high upside could be wrong too.

Must be Sacramento.
If Sacramento takes Sharpe I'm sure Detroit will take Jaden Ivy.

I think that story by Quick was simply him trying to find a narrative about Cronin. It also had no recent quotes or sourced notes about the plan, only generalities following the exit interviews last month. Having a strategy of solely taking the most risky prospect... seems foolish.

Cronin has literally said it himself he prefers upside guys.

For me I think first 10 guys in the draft even more, have upside.
For Dames sake Id rather get a guy that can come in right away and contribute offensively and defend. If we are going to use the pick to draft versus trade.

if you’re looking to rookies for contributions on a team that wants to contend, you’re doing it wrong imo. Take BPA or trade the pick for an established player (not Grant) or trade down for a role player (like Grant)

I wouldn't be opposed at all to trade/package 7 for an established impact player. But if we trade a different package for Grant we should at least look at what player at 7 could fit and play immediately.

I dont think its an unreasonable ask. Guys like Barnes/Giddey/Wagner who had stellar rookie seasons would all make us a much better team this upcoming yr. Perhaps this draft isnt as deep but i think we can expect a top 10 guy to contribute for us. Hell even a guy doing what Kuminga or Zaire Williams did for GS and MEM would be nice.

So Cronin likes to draft potential future all stars?

Thanks for the insight, Quick!

I find it highly questionable that Cronin's model is to draft super risky players. What dispensary does Quick go to I wonder.

Yeah, no rookies ever help right away. Dame definitely didn't average 19ppg as the 6th pick.
Exactly. Rookie Sam Cassell hit a game winning shot vs Knicks in NBA Finals. Rookie Daniel Gibson was Cleveland's second best player in Cleveland's run to the 2007 NBA Finals.

Oh Dame would love that. I'm sure he's REAL excited to wait for a "couple years".
I don't think Dame is demanding we win the title in 2023 or he leaves. He's more patient than that. If you can get a guy that is All Star in a couple years, you do it. Dame will still be here.
