With $13m (IIRC) in cap and a need for just about everything when it comes to the bench.

Assume the draft pick is mid/late lotto.

GO!

Draft -- SG: C.J. McCollum
The best scorer and most efficient player in DX's database. Same size as Eric Gordon (6'3" 195-200 lbs). Has that 'it' factor and nearly identical advanced stats as Lillard last year.

Sign -- SF: Kostas Papanikolaou
Future starter? Big enough to guard both forward positions and has turned into an elite outside shooter (49%). A massive, MASSIVE upgrade over Babbitt and Claver. A young Garbajosa-type.

Sign -- PG: Milos Teodosic
A big PG (6'5") who has been very productive. Strengths: Shooting (46%) and feel for the game. Think Alexey Shved. A young seasoned vet.

PG: Milos Teodosic
SG: C.J. McCollum
SF: Kostas Papanikolaou
PF:
C: Meyers Leonard

Well I'm certainly glad you're not in charge of building the bench.

Well, lets see what you can come up with.

Mr. Lets-trade-LMA-for-Ellis-and-Sanders.

I never endorsed that trade, and I'll get back to you with my results tomorrow.

Need time to consult with your scouts?

So you're assuming we lose the pick?

FA 1: Sign Iguodala (~7mil deal for 4 years)-- there is no way DEN will re-sign him after giving out pretty big deals to Gallo/McGee/Lawson
FA 2: S&T Hickson to NO for Robin Lopez
FA 3: Sign Patty for whatever remaining amount we have.

That's a pretty solid team right there with Iggy as our 6th man.

I just don't get the naming names thing. We have no idea what our draft position will be, we don't know if that Greek kid wants to come over and it's impossible to predict what kind of free agents would come here or what kind of lopsided trades Olshey might be able to pull off. All I know is that there are needs everywhere with the most pressing needs (in order) being a starting caliber center, a backup point guard (or a combo guard type), shooting guard, backup power forward/center and backup small forward.

The other thing I know is that even with a home-run free agency period, a solid draft pick and convincing Kostas to come over, not every need is going to be filled out. But if we can get to seven to eight legit NBA players on this roster that would be a pretty huge step towards something good.

I wonder if anyone would take Freeland/2nd round pick for an expiring?

That's just it.... there's too many variables to really figure out what we'd do. Will we have a pick? Where will it be? How much money will we have? There's just no way to know. I'm sure we could come up with a list of free agents we would love to have, or guys we would love to draft, but there's simply no way to really predict what will happen this summer.

Building a bench by Mediocre Man

Chapter 1 (The trade deadline)

Trade JJ Hickson and Meyers Lenoard to Phoenix for Marcin Gortat
Trade Lamarcus Aldridge, Nolan Smith and Elliott Williams to OKC for Jeremy Lamb, Eric Maynor, Perry Jones III, Kevin Martin and TOR's pick
Trade Wes Matthews to Indiana for Jeff Pendergraph, DJ Augustin and a 2014 first

Chapter 2 (The draft)

Most likely picking top 3 and 10

Nerlens Noel
Rudy Gobert

Chapter 3 (The renouncing of everyone except Eric Maynor, and the now $21 million cap space plan)

Sign
Josh Smith 13mm
Tyreke Evans 5 mm
Brandon Wright 3 mm

Chapter 4 (The roster)

Gortat/Gobert/Freeland
Noel/B. Wright/Jones III/Claver
Smith/Evans/Pavlovic
Batum/Lamb/Barton
Lillard/Maynor

Chapter 5 (The bench)

Rudy Gobert
Brandon Wright
Tyreke Evans
Jeremy Lamb
Eric Maynor

Joel Freeland
PJIII
Pavlovic
Barton
Claver

i think torontos pick has some sort of weird top 3 and after lotto protection, so likely kiss your starting pf goodbye in that plan

tyreke will get more than 5 a year

also okc becomes unbeatable, in our division, nice

my plan

sign one of the million big men on the market this summer

trade our pick with chaff for a few other nba level players

trade our pick with chaff for a few other nba level players

Even if we're bad enough to keep our pick this year, the Steipen rule prevents us from trading our pick unless we have another one.

just have to get a late #1 from someone, never been an issue
