Another conservative is calling “crony capitalism” on Donald Trump’s deal with Carrier, albeit an unexpected one — Sarah Palin.

In an op-ed for the website Young Conservatives, the former Alaska governor allowed that the details behind the manufacturer’s decision to keep some 1,000 jobs in Indiana at the president-elect’s behest, rather than move them to Mexico, are not yet clear. But touting the value of free markets, Palin signaled her disapproval if it was a case of “political intrusion using a stick or carrot to bribe or force one individual business to do what politicians insist.”

“When government steps in arbitrarily with individual subsidies, favoring one business over others, it sets inconsistent, unfair, illogical precedent,” she asserted.

For one thing, they gave them some tax breaks...a common ploy to keep businesses in an area. Oregon democrates do it to keep Nike and Intel in our area.

Secondly, he threatened to take away their big federal contracts if they didn't keep some of the jobs there. Sorry, don't see what's wrong with trying to protect the American worker. This is why people voted for him.

The print version of Fox News has also come out against it.

It seems very similar to the deal Coos County cut with the Bandon Dunes developer in Chicago. A 15 year deal with sweet hart tax relief. It was either that or no development so they did it.
It adds what ever it adds to the County revenue, and it does not hurt the school district, because the State calculates what the per student expenditure level is going to be, and fund the school district to that level after deducting local revenue. What ever the big golf destinations pays in is more than it would be with no deal.

Not sure what the big deal is over the $7 million in tax relief. Look at the big picture.

The jobs pay $30+ per hour.
The jobs pay $62,400+ per year.
He saved over 1,000 jobs.
That works out to over $624+ million in taxable revenue, per year.

The govt will recoup the $7 million in a couple of weeks.

Or am I missing something, besides the politics involved.

I am waiting to see how Trump and his bright boys fix the real problem facing industry in this country. Look at Carrier, paying $30 bucks and hour to union employees. Industry all over the country
are faced with the same problem trying to compete with countries where unions may not hold enough power to force high wages for their members if the union would even be permitted to form in the first place. I heard the wage for making the Carrier furnaces would be around $9 buck in Monterey.

So more has to happen, Trump can threaten tariffs, but that isn't going to be a real fix. The question is what will level the playing field?

No, it is just Democrats bitching, taking the contrary position.

Why would my ass be raw

Well I looked at your dog avatar and it made me think of a dog scooting himself across the floor, So it seemed right to say so.
But to tell the truth, I also had thought posted a response to your post above Saying the same thing I did about Palin. I guess I failed t hit the go button or something. Given that,
Post #11 seemed totally odd so you got my thoughts about the scoot.
My error for dropping a post, and failing to keep up. I could blame the lousy cold I have, but I may not improve when it's gone.

So is she an idiot or not? Or only not when it's convenient?

Having her spout a Democrat position does not help her. Some how I don't see Trump giving her much of anything. I know I am not impressed to see her as the person to straighten out the VA.

Arguing for Laissez faire capitalism is a "Democratic" position now?

Okie dokie.

What do you call the woman who had infinite money, unprecedented support by the media, and a popular president, but loses to Trump?

I'm sorry, did you think I was a Hillary supporter?

Nope.

Palin shmalin. Weird that she's even being mentioned. She was brutalized in this forum for being an airhead. Now people take weight in what she said? SAD

I haven't looked into this deeply, but at face value this is what I would like to see more of. Use taxes and tariffs to keep industries local, yes. But it needs to be implemented more fully, not just targeted to one company. But considering he hasn't started the job yet, I would hope he makes this type of policy more routine.

IMG_1741.JPG Could it be that when the debates were in full bloom that Trump knew about the government contracts on all levels coupled with Carrier? His enterprises also have an empire of buildings. He picked on their decision to move to Mexico and when the issue became a definite business hedge bet as soon as he would be president. We are talking about $100,000 (+) dollar roof top/pent house chillers per building. The service contracts are enormous as well. Multiple that by 50 States and other entities and it is colossal money. Carrier also developed A-410 refrigerant with partners. The one plant in Indiana saved the employee base but also gave Pence a smile too. Trump is touting his businessman skills with this subject.
