Re: Security Team Commander Says Ambassador Stevens Wanted His Team to Stay in Libya

I never saw Clinton's name mentioned. Did she call for the security to be revoked herself?

lt me see, what is her job? Who had the power to keep SST in place?

This logic explains a lot about republicans.

This logic explains a lot about republicans.

The State Department is tasked with giving the proper protection to its employees, such as a US ambassador, let alone the ambassador to a country that we helped "liberate" within the last year via military support.

Your logic explains a lot about Democrats. No accountability, and ad hominem attacks when the hard questions start to be asked.

Oh welcome back, so are you going to answer my question after you attack me?

chain of command. nothing to do with R or D, fact is I like Hillery, far better than Barry, rather see her in than him.

What question? The one I already answered? Or did you another excuse?

Re: Security Team Commander Says Ambassador Stevens Wanted His Team to Stay in Libya

State now says they never received request for August extension for Stevens or security team.

So, either the team leader is lying, and Chris Stevens is dead, so he can't say anything, or the Obama administration is lying.

Hmm ... tough call...

Did Hillary Clinton get mentioned? Did she directly order the removal? It seems you are directly implicating her. Was George W Bush directly to blame for all decisions made in Iraq?

Hillary Clinton blamed it on a spontaneous protest against some lame movie, as did her UN ambassador. That lie blew up in their face now that even Carney says it was a pre-planned terrorist attack.

No accountability ... just another "bump in the road", and those who accept it look all the more foolish.

Re: Security Team Commander Says Ambassador Stevens Wanted His Team to Stay in Libya

Hearing on this today in the House. White House is saying one thing; State is saying the opposite.

What a clusterfuck.

Debra Burlingame ‏@DebraBurlingame

State Dept. has 50 minute tape of real time events in #Benghazi, won't turn over. Should be titled "Innocence of Al Qaeda."

Re: Security Team Commander Says Ambassador Stevens Wanted His Team to Stay in Libya

didnt we fund, and fund and support intermediaries to help al qaeda in order for them to overthrow qaddafi?

WAR ON TERROR!! wait, unless you guys are also fighting someone we want out of power, then youre cool, but just for now, and then WAR ON TERROR!

how is this any different than aiding them against the soviets? a self perpetuating war machine built on fear that will grind up our children, yay

I thought overthrowing Qaddafi was a terrible idea and posted it at the time. Same as Egypt, same as Syria. I guess I learned enough from Iraq, and overthrowing a dictator who was anti-US, to see that overthrowing neutral-US dictators was a bad idea.

Who are "you guys"?

Re: Security Team Commander Says Ambassador Stevens Wanted His Team to Stay in Libya

you guys = al qaeda or anti - west, the line between the two is hard to see these days

fact is, we are playing both sides of the fence, when one of the sides is our sworn enemy in a 100 year war of terror and fear

we prop them up to help them overthrow the gov, then expect them to fall in line when we want to dictate the new one, its just fucking stupid

Oh, we agree, then. I'm not clear on what Romney would do on this, either, which is why the foreign policy debate next week will be informative.

what he says in the debate is likely inconsequential to anything, as 4 years ago proves

romney might be a little more hard line for good or bad, instead of propping up the locals to take out whomever, he might just have the US do it themselves

maybe its easier to sell liberation than military support, who knows

shit sandwich meet turd taco

Actually, the host country accepts full responsibility for diplomatic staff at any and all embassies within their borders, and places severe limits on an embassy's own security force.

security force would have been more of a deterrece

security forces (up to so many) operate with diplomatic immunity, if they create heat, they can be told to go home etc

4 years ago proved that what you said in a debate mattered when you didn't have a record to run on as an incumbent.

Romney can say the same vague stuff that Obama did in 2008, while Obama actually is going to have to defend his record in the Middle East during the next debate.

Actually, you don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about, as usual. The ambassadors and state department can ask for additional US resources, and can even be asked to be pulled from a country if the danger is that extreme. That has nothing to do with the host country.

just saying that what romney says about foreign policy will likely mean squadoosh if he wins

Actually I do know what I'm talking about, as usual.

I turned down an opportunity to work out of the US Embassy in Tehran mere months before the hostage-taking.

The host country has the final decision in all matters. The Embassy can close itself in protest, but is otherwise powerless. It's why I didn't take the job in Tehran, and in retrospec I obviously made the right decision.
