With this whole sherman thing happening... a lot of people say he's cocky, classless, etc.

However, there is a large portion of people that love seeing the non-scripted, non-PC version of atheltes. Makes them feel "real" to them.

In an ideal world, what would you think is the best way to go about it?

Me personally, I love the off-the-cuff, true blue answers. I get so bored with the cookie cutter answers. I sometimes wonder why the interviews need to happen. I understand with social media that everyone has to "watch their step"... but come on... let people talk, they aren't robots.

How about you?

I think it is all way out of hand. It starts from when players are recruited to college and never stops. I can't imagine what would happen if everything I said was scrutinized, especially during or after a game.

Talking shit on the field is fine. I expect it. I understand it.

Talking shit about an opponent that you just barely beat is pretty classless, but whatever floats your boat. It's too bad because Wilson is extremely classy. I would have a lot more respect for the Seahawks if more of their players were like #3.

Think about the time the interview was done. That's WHY the media does that, to HOPE to get reactions just like Sherman did. They want that raw emotion of what a human being does after a game like that. Even in pick up games, people talk a lot of shit right after a game. They still got the juices going. I much prefer (win or loss) a player doing that than "They are a good team. Good D, good O, good coach. Blah blah blah". If we lost in the finals and Lebron told everyone he punked us... if he made the GW shot and we blew a big lead for that to happen... whose fault is it that he got to say that? Not Lebron.

There's this thing called "good sportsmanship" and it's supposedly instilled from a very young age. It's why, after a game, they used to make us go slap hands and say "good game." Talking shit during the game is fine because it's part of the competitive spirit, but after you just beat a team, and it was close, at least show that you have a little class. Sherman is a punk, just like Kevin Garnett is a punk. I don't care for punks, and I really hope someone knocks him on his ass in a couple weeks.

Talking trash only works if you can back it up.

Richard Sherman continues to back it up. That's what makes it great.

Best part with all the hate is it's what makes him go. The hate fuels him to play better. It's what makes the whole team go. So continue to pile it on because you're only helping him.

The Seahawks really play the "no one wanted us" card and they've banded together to form a great team. They're a true team in every sense.

What I don't get is the amount I hear and read of people complaining about the lack of true rivalries in sports, and how all the players are just too good of friends and too buddy buddy. And then when one clearly doesn't like another, and calls him out in a huge moment, he gets labeled as classless.

If I didn't know any better I'd say he looks like he is high on some sort of speed

I love Richard Sherman he gives me a reason to pay attention and since you know he will be candid it allows journalist to grow some balls metaphorically speaking and ask real questions.

He's cocky and there's nothing wrong with that. People enjoy watching him play and during post game interviews. You might say, he's a man of refreshing candor.

They teach good sportsmanship at a young age because they allow girls to play with guys, force everyone to play even terrible kids and other bull shit. This is football a game in which you line up and beat the hell out of each other for 4 hours. The people who should be ashamed are the idiot defenders who get up and celebrate a tackle after a 7 yard gain on first down. Richard Sherman was a monster he was thrown at twice all game, he held once and was flagged and ended the game the second time.

They shoved a mic in his face just seconds after his huge play. The dude was full of adrenaline at the time. We've all heard of MJ/Kobe/KD/etc going off and talking smack to their opponents after a big dunk/shot. Put a mic in their face on the next play down and you get the same thing.

Much ado about nothing

Considering the amount of crying, bitching and cussing that occurred in the Blazers game thread tonight I do not believe anyone on this thread has a right to complain about what Sherman said.

When it comes to women's beach volleyball I expect the players to be interviewed in the nude. And with the Winter Olympics coming up some of the women figure skaters, the over 18yr old ones.

Yes - looked to me like that was the drugs talking.

Olshey should have both scouted and signed before the playoffs.

I got tired of the Praise the Lord.

Even if you are a believer, doesn't god have more important things to worry about?
West Virginia has no water, California is in drought, Iraq, Syria, South Sudan and Central African Republic in state of war, Australia with record heat wave, factories collapse killing thousands in Bangla Desh, but all god really wants is one group of millionaires to prevail over another?

Please. You can thank god for giving you talent, if that's what you believe, but if god decided the outcome, does that mean the other team weren't good enough Christians? Or god is from Seattle and not SF? God loves the Yankees?

I have no problem with Sherman, asking him to be Damian Lillard is like asking me to be Lady Gaga. I'm not.

Exactly. The game threads are kind of fun unless your team is getting their asses kicked and then it is an emotional venting opportunity. Sometimes it is best to wait an hour to calm down. The players are no exception. They need time to come down from a very emotional battle.

I just rolled my eyes at the rant and thought it was a classless to bring Crabtree into the mix. Talk yourself up all you want but keep his name out of your mouth.

I was much more disapointed by his article in SI where he says he doesn't want to be a villian and shouldn't be judged off what he does on the field. Dude talks more than anyone else, pushes the boundries on physical play, and goes off on rants in front of millions of people, but we can't judge him on any of that? It's a pattern of behavior with him that speaks just as much to who he is as all the great charity work he does. It's all a part of who he is, but we don't get to pick and choose what people judge us based off of. I was also hoping he'd embrace the bad boy image and run with it on the field like the Pistons of 25 years ago, instead he backed off the comments.

I want to hear every male athlete's penis length in an interview. A gay male friend of mine says he's not a size queen but he can be impressed. Personally, I'm not impressed, just an information junkie.

Sherman took it a little too far IMO, but I like the candid/say what is really on your mind response. Much better than the boring crap most athletes say.
Who wants a Greg Popovich type during a game interview... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
