That's ok with me. Now we can trade Sergio without worrying about Rudy. I think we should be playing Bayless anyway.

Bummer. We need to make that consolidating trade, or this is only the tip of the iceberg. Webster, Outlaw, Rodriguez and Bayless are all going to want 25 mpg, and with the way Batum has emerged and the eventual return of Oden, there just aren't the minutes.

95.5 reporting he's made trade request

Perhaps due to the reports that Bayless is moving up the charts in practice and he is worried that his limited minutes will go down further?

I know Bayless has the non-fear factor going for him but he just isn't a PG and really, neither is Roy. Blake is adequate but I prefer Sergio directing the second team, it seems to flow very well with him running the show.

Gramps...

I missed a couple games but from what I have seen Sergio's shot really isn't much better then last year. He at least doesn't take many shots. I'm not that high on Sergio running the second unit. Sometimes he looks ok and does have some chemistry with Rudy but lots of time I think we would be better off with him out of the second unit.:dunno:

Frankly he and Nate are a big mismatch, Sergio's best environment is a free wheeling one and nate just is not that guy, fair to both if him and team if we trade him.

Its the best thing for Sergio, not sure its the best thing for the Blazers as he has been playing good since preseason.

But we DO have to consolidate, and he is our 10th man right now and that isn't counting Webster and Oden.

I like Sergio's flashy passing, but he is a huge defensive liability. Bayless isn't the strongest floor general, but is by all accounts, a very good defender already.

Difficult choice... I think that unless Serg can show he has improved his shooting by a HUGE amount, we trade him and use Bayless.

shooting improves over time, and Bayless will struggle with his shot too once he plays big minutes. Our second unit (Sergio, Rudy, Batum) should just be a zone unit and then their defensive deficiencies will be limited and advantages (steals in the lanes) will be maximized. He's looking fantastic (leader in assists right now) so far and Nate is just a stupid SOB. Blake is playing like a big pile of shit this year.

I don't like the timing of this, but it's understandable. Sergio and Nate is not a good marriage of philosophies, and Sergio had improved enough that I think he's deserving of more than 5-10 minutes a night. I just hope this doesn't turn into a distraction for the team and create unneeded drama -- the schedule is hard enough without self inflicted gunshot wounds.

Later Sergio! I like him and I like having him and Rudy together. But I like Bayless more and Bayless is WAY better IMO.

Still don't agree on the consolidating theory. We need 3 at every position. I think our guard situation is just about right. We have 5 guys for two positions. (I consider Bayless 3rd string at both guard positions in case of an injury)

If Sergio (Not his agent) wants out then sure move him. But I don't trust the Spanish media or agents. Let's hear it from him first.

We do not need 3 players that deserve PT at every position...

We don't need Blake, Sergio, Bayless JUST at PG... We don't need Batum, Webster and Outlaw JUST at SF... We don't really need Aldridge, Frye and Diogu just at PF..

We can get value for them instead of lettin' them rot on the bench with potential chemistry problems.

sergio's agent asked for a trade. Sergio hasn't said anything himself yet... this can't help chemistry right now.

Hmmm... Fernandez isn't going to like this situation...

Why? He appears a pro and is already getting pretty solid minutes and will get more. U think he came to play in the U.S. for so much less money because sergio is here? LOL It's been his lifetime dream, he might "prefer" Sergio stays but it will make virtually no difference big picture.

sergio wants a trade....? SCREW HIM! WHAT THE HELL HAS SERGIO RODRIGUEZ EVER DONE TO ASK FOR A TRADE? He cant shoot to save his life, misses easy shots, cant defend, and is great at alley oop passes.

KP must be sweating.

Seriously...we tell sergio when we will trade him...not the other way around. HEs lucky to be in the nba.

What kind of trade value does Sergio have? I'm guessing not much. maybe to team rebuilding and stock piling PGs.

I see Sergio in a some package to a team rebuilding, but Sergio won't be the main Blazer in the trade. You can't have the tail wag the dog . . . if Sergio wants to go, there will be an opportunity for that at some point this season (if a big trade comes up), but this trade is not to be rushed by Sergio.

After that big win and the fact Sergio is playing a role right now (small role, but a role), I don't know why they take these things public. No way Blazer make a move just because Sergio publically requests it . . . and if he said it instead of his agent, he might be riding the pine.

Who wants him?

That's an excellent question. I will say this about Sergio, I was one of his biggest detractors last year because of his shoddy D, piss poor shooting, and a tendency to make at least one boneheaded pass or play for ever decent one. This year he looks much improved in his shooting (at least his form if not his FG%) and he's cut down on the mistakes ... his D is still pretty crappy however.

I think Sergio probably does warrant a better look than he's getting here in Portland, but with Blake, Brandon, and Rudy eating up most of the guard rotation minutes he's never going to get the 20+ that he probably "deserves."

I can see Sergio being used as a throw in with the Raef Lafrentz contract along with other players in some kind of consolidation trade. I think he'd probably thrive in D'Antoni's system, Ivaroni's, Carlisle's and maybe even Larry Brown could find a use for him since he's actually a pretty solid setup man, with a true point guard's mentality.

Yeah, I think it would be best if Sergio/his agent went to the Blazers front office behind the scenes.

I really hope we keep him and we can take care of this in the off-season. I always thought this was the season where everyone proves if they are part of our core or not and after the season we make the moves to surround our core with role players and make sure everyone knows their role on the team.

Can't we trade Blake instead? Everyone's been complaining about Blake (his shooting's okay, but he's too slow and unimaginative) and the team didn't look bad in preseason when Blake was out. Sergio's problem is that Nate isn't giving him enough minutes to get comfortable. If Nate didn't have Blake to give minutes to, we'd find out quickly either
(a) whether Sergio can look better given extended minutes, OR
(b) whether Roy and Rudy can play together for extended minutes, OR
(c) how ready Bayless is to contribute.

I've been a Blake defender, but he just isn't that great. Keeping him is a crutch that allows Nate to justify playing slowdown ball. When Nate was in Seattle, he was forced to play more uptempo because he had a player at PG (Ridnour) who was actually pretty similar to Sergio, and maybe even a worse defender.

Problem is this is probably the worst time to try and make a trade. It's rare you see a trade this time of year. Anyone have a trade exception out there we can trade Sergio for?

Larry Brown could find a use for him since he's actually a pretty solid setup man, with a true point guard's mentality.

Not a chance. He'd get even fewer minutes(likely zero) under Larry Brown than under Nate McMillan. Brown is a coach that preaches the value of EVERY possession at BOTH ends of the floor.

BNM

BTW to bad Houston wouldn't trade Brooks, kid is a decent PG.

The problem with everybody discovering their role with the team is that we probably have at 11 guys on the roster who are deserving of minutes, and with Nate tightening up his rotation down to 8 or 9 plus guys like Brandon, Rudy, LMA, Blake, Travis/Martell and Greg (once he comes back) all likely to get the bulk of available time, there's precious little to get spread around for guys like Channing, Nicolas, Bayless, Sergio, Joel and Ike ... and it's probably better for a guy to get a DNP than get thrown out there for 5 minutes where they are going to feel rushed and have no chance to develop any kind of rhythm.

package sergio with trav and get a good SF in return. bayless has what it takes to be the PG of the future. hell backup blake for now.
