Shannon Brown

Jarrett Jack hasn't played very well for us the first three games. Shannon Brown seems to have fallen out of favor in Cleveland and didn't have his option picked up. How about just making it simple and trading these players? Maybe throw in a draft pick or two on one side or the other. Does anybody have any opinions on Shannon Brown? Is he a good team guy? Does he have a good attitude? Would he fit in well with our team?

I like Shannon Brown, and enjoyed watched the Shannon Brown/Mo Ager tandem when they were at Michigan State. With that said, I don't think he's a great fit in Portland. He's too small to defend average sized 2-guards and he doesn't really possess necessary point guard skills to succeed there. He's a great athlete, very quick, brings a lot of energy, and can score in bunches... but he is undersized for his style of play, which hurts him defensively in a big way, and he needs to improve his shot selection. He sometimes plays a little too out of control. Portland is better off playing Taurean Green or Sergio Rodriguez, in my opinion.</p>

At the same time, Jarrett Jack isn't what Cleveland needs either. Cleveland needs a point guard that they can trust to get the ball across halfcourt, stretch the floor, and shoot the ball at an efficient rate. Daniel Gibson may develop into that guy, and he shows a lot of promise, but they need a veteran starting so they can stop playing Hughes out of position. A guy like Delonte West or Mike James would be perfect in Cleveland, in my opinion.</p>

It's still not worth it, in my opinion. Brown has talent and could be a serviceable combo guard to have coming off the bench in the future, but he's not worth taking a gamble on... especially in Portland, where Nate stresses defense and would like a stable point guard.</p>

I will say that I like Steve Blake in the starting lineup better than Jack with this group, though.</p>

Asfarastalentgoes,sure,butIthinkthefrontofficeisnowjustasconcernedwiththingslikecharacter,marketing,imageandchemistry. Rightorwrong,Idon'tseetheBlazerstradingforJ.R.Smith. That's why I was asking about the attitude of Shannon Brown. Francisco Garcia is somebody else a friend suggested. I'm not asking for much, just a better fit, and somebody we have the option of letting go if we want to bring Rudy over next season.</p>
