Members of Shaun White's management team at CAA confirmed to X Games organizers on Tuesday that White plans to compete in Vert at X Games 16 in two weeks in Los Angeles. White's participation was a matter of speculation after he injured his ankle while skating the Venice, Calif. skatepark prior to last month's Dew Tour stop in Boston.
In interviews given while on-site for the Boston event as part of NBC's broadcast team, White described the injury as a rolled ankle that aggravated an injury sustained on the same ankle while snowboarding this past winter. White next resurfaced this past weekend at Woodward West, where he was reportedly using the facility's foam pit in an effort to tune up his skating. This led to rumors on Twitter that White was planning to finally return to skate competition -- rumors that were proven today to be true.
"I'm really excited to be competing in the X Games since I missed the last go around," White told ESPN.com. "Coming off my ankle injury I'm stoked to be back and really looking forward to skating and seeing the fans."
Because of the looming Vancouver Olympics, White did not compete in last summer's X Games. The 2007 X Games Vert champion, he finished third in 2008 -- also the year of his last major skate competition victory, when he won the Cleveland stop of that summer's Dew Tour.
