Here's the thing, I'm fine with having the mental health discussion. The problem is these MFs don't want to do ONE THING to prevent a mental person from getting a gun.

They always come with that bullshit:

"Define mentally ill."

If severe mental illness can prevent someone from getting a license to drive how does it not prevent said person from obtaining a firearm??

The bottom line is this:

Well, yes and no. Most people with mental illness aren’t violent. In fact, they are as a group more likely to be victims of crime than perpetrators.

On the other hand, most mass shooters are clearly disturbed. But focusing on people with mental illness is likely to increase stigma and prevent, not encourage, treatment and access to services. And the fact is, mental health professionals already have the power to hospitalize dangerous people. States could certainly examine those laws to see if they’re working as written.

Psychiatric evaluations for gun ownership make sense (and might be one way Congress could address mental health, since guns fall under interstate commerce). And, when people come in contact with the mental health system because they present a danger to themselves or others, determining whether they have firearms, and whether they can safely possess them, should be routine (and often is).

But keep in mind mental illness is largely a state issue, with little the Federal government can do but send money (important!), and keep in mind people have civil rights other than the right to own a gun. Locking up everyone with a psychiatric illness and a bad attitude not only doesn’t work (we’ve tried it), and not only is extremely expensive, it requires taking away people’s liberty.

If we’re talking about civil rights — would you rather be locked up without a gun, or free without a gun?

Or does Trump think the only way to keep guns out of people’s hands is to lock them up? Because if that’s going to be the new stupid argument, I wish he’d make it explicit.

The de-institutionlization process in psychiatry hasn’t worked perfectly, but going backwards to the time of mass hospitalization isn’t the answer. Better community supports at every level, from childhood on, is. But the folks calling this a mental health issue are only cutting resources instead of adding them.
 
This kid got the guns from his dad's collection...registered to his dad....the kid hadn't registered anything

not necessarily...hate and rage mixed with Nazi aspirations and racist beliefs....KKK hid under hoods when they lynched people..they didn't want to be recognized at all. this kid had Nazi shit and killing fantasies on his facebook page already.

Why is this happening?
It seems these school shooters share some common attributes;

All are young.

All are Males.

All are White.

Most seem to be without a father they live with, don't know about this latest in Texas.

What could be happening to cause young white male difficulty in transitioning to manhood?
Why do they pick Schools for targets?

What is happening to this segment of the population that does not affect, females, Black people, Hispanic People, or other minorities?
Is it something at School?

According to @Natebishop3 this has always happened, we just never knew about because we didn't have the internet.

The obvious solution is to get rid of the internet.

Perhaps the internet is a factor. Maybe not a cause, but a factor.

It hasn't always been happening either. Only about the last 20 years. About as long as we have had Gun Free Zones.

But why such a narrow group of people to become the culprits?

Maybe we need to stop picking and choosing what parts of the 2nd amendment we go with?

Maybe if you want to own guns - serve your country for a certain amount of time - maybe a year?

Army, Navy, Police force, Air force, National Guard - where you will properly trained in the use of these arms, and hopefully, if you have mental issues - they will be found by professionals during this service time...

Just an idea.

I suppose you are speaking of when a "gun" is use to kill a person in a school.

I am speaking of when young shooter began doing mass shootings turning a school into a killing zone.

Seems like it sort of began with this one;

We have gun laws, need to enforce them.
Need to ADD to them: stricter laws on locking up guns, keep ammo and gun locked up, maybe separately, secure schools better, identify fucking psycho kids and yes, profile the shit out of them because they are all 15-18 white males who all had red flags. Sick of this shit. Mental evaluation mandatory of all kids every two years starting in 6th grade, DO SOMETHING for Christ’s sake
 
Gun laws didn't keep this kid from going home, getting dad's guns and ammo and going to school....nobody checked to see if he could have guns and be responsible...he took them from his own home. Apparently he was bullied....still no reason to kill people but that's the excuse being used currently

Which is why I said we need additional laws. Extend laws and punishment to family members and schools who don’t do enough to identify these kids, handle it, and secure their school. When some parent of a murdered kid sues a school district because you can waltz into a school likes it’s a Walmart and fire away maybe they’ll take it seriously.

One of his first victims was a girl who "rejected" him publicly. Its still early but stories Ive been reading seem to point to him harassing her to the point of her getting fed up and publicly humiliating him to get him to back off.

I suppose it is possible the numbers are still in alignment but I suspect not.
What is the pressure on these young white males that black males do not succumb to? Hispanics either?
Most seem to be fatherless or father not in daily life, but then more Black male are in this situation than the White kids. Zero Black mass shooters?
Hard to ignore that number.

But then, maybe it is just the way it is, and we need to take specific precautions and pay attention to signals, to prevents this ultimate manifestation.
