Icher's record-tying round has her atop ShopRite LPGA Classic
Karine Icher kept making birdies in bunches Saturday at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, but she chose not to keep track of them, preferring rather to count them up as soon as her final putt hit the bottom of the cup.
Once she did count them up, the score came out to a 9-under-par 62, tying the tournament course record and moving the 37-year-old citizen of France into a 1-stroke lead after two rounds of the $1.5 million event over the Bay Course at Stockton Seaview Resort.
Swede Anna Nordqvist became the oldest winner on the youthful LPGA Tour this year when she successfully defended her title at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in New Jersey on Sunday.
Nordqvist, who started the final round two strokes behind overnight leader Karine Icher of France, stormed to victory with a brilliant seven-under-par 64 in strong winds at the Stockton Seaview Golf Club in Galloway.
She did not miss a green in regulation until the par-five 18th, where she made amends for a poor approach shot by curling home a 12-foot par putt.
